Man, now that I see them, I am SO glad I never watched anything but the first trailer. Avoided them after people said they gave too much away and it turns out that allowed me to enjoy this flick that much more (Seriously, those things gave away the whole damn movie!). Of course, it had a few dumb elements and plotholes, but overall was a decent watch. I give it a 7/10
Good thing I didn't remember lick from the trailers when I went to see this. Someone in the movie thread said it best though, if you've seen The Island, then you've seen this movie. It does get pretty predictable if you've seen that movie. I couldn't guess it at the time because I was so into the movie. Friggin Victoria is that of the secksy.
Pretty nice to listen. <iframe src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/64213430?title=0&byline=0&portrait=0&badge=0" width="500" height="281" frameborder="0" webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe> <p><a href="http://vimeo.com/64213430">SoundWorks Collection - The Sound and Music of Oblivion</a> from <a href="http://vimeo.com/colemanfilm">Michael Coleman</a> on <a href="http://vimeo.com">Vimeo</a>.</p>
First thing that popped into my mind about 10 mins into the movie, throw in a little Blade Runner, 2001 and countless other scifi movies and you get this. It's watchable but overlong and convoluted when it doesn't have to be.
Plot holes that bothered me: Spoiler -Flight recorder had been ejected with crew, but still recorded them entering the Tet? -Where did the daughter come from exactly? One day of being together? -52 Vicky never reported missing 52 Cruise? -Where did 52 Cruise go after getting tied up? -Who built the Tet? -Humans acted like aliens in costumes when Cruise was around? Why not call out to him? "Hey we are human, come talk for a second" -How does a group of people 60 years older than the Odyssey know about the ship, its ejection or the crew being alive? How do they know to put a beacon out and what frequency to use? -Cruise 52 somehow knew that the wife was alive and she was living in a cabin by the woods? What?
I love this song <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/z0pzPDrIABU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Spoiler 1. They still had wireless communication with the crew pod until they entered the Tet. 2. Do we have to explain the birds and the bees? It only takes ONCE. Wrap it UP! 3. Doesn't matter. If she was like the other Vicky, she knew it would mean the end of their usefulness. 4. He was lost in the Desert, then he found the humans. He was too far away from their base. It did take him 3 years to find the wife. 5. Wasn't necessary for the story. Maybe a sequel. 6. Remember, it was Cruise clones that where the ground troops. The humans were not sure if Cruise 49 would listen or think it was a trick. Plus, the humans could not take off the tech suits which made them harder to be detected by drones. The needed to capture Cruise 49, try to explain what really happened and then hope he would not go back and tell the Tet. If he told, Cruise 49 would have been killed on the spot. 7. Morgan Freeman's character is the only one that knew the whole story. He was old enough to be alive when the attack happened. 60 years passes and maybe gathered intelligence the ship may still be in orbit . That wasn't clear. 8. Cruise 52 knew she was alive from the other humans (Morgan Freeman's group). In the next 3 years, he met up with them and they explained the story of who he is. He recognized the wife from the same visions Cruise 49 had when those 2 fought. The humans didn't know where Cruise 49 built the "Oasis" at, so it took them 3 years to find it.
A lot of the tracks in the movie sounded identical to the ones in Tron Legacy (I know same director) That's what I noticed most while sitting through the movie lol It was good not great 6 / 10
just watched this for the first time tonight. 6/10 is about right. would have been a 7/10 with better actors/actresses. still good though. for a while I've been avoiding tom cruise movies for various reasons I really can't remember. but I saw this tonight, and Jack Reacher last weekend...good stuff I gotta say.
Jack Reacher was a decent movie (6/10) that could've been a lot better if Tom Cruise was switched with someone who can play off a gruff role like Hugh Jackman. Tom Cruise is Tom Cruise is Tom Cruise. Much like Denzel is Denzel is...
I thought of Duncan Idaho as the lead character in a pastiche of Dune, 2001, Lifeforce, & 1984. The dialogue was terrible. The composition of the CGI was a redeeming point. The director's only other effort Tron 2 is just as ordinary but at least unlike most CGI heavy films his don't look like computer game cinemagraphics.
I love Tom Cruise movies, but i agree that this probably would have been better with a different cast.
I don't know about that. Some movies sure, but those two particularly have transformed into some of the most interesting characters I've ever seen in cinema.
Watched this last night. Thought it was pretty good. 7/10 the only thing that bothered me was how the humans ran like aliens until they weren't aliens anymore.
