You do know that Lord of the Rings and Titanic won Best Picture. And last years The Kings Speech, Black Swan & True Grit grossed a combined $420 million domestically and $1 Billion internationally. I think you fans boys need to get over the Oscars not nominating your favorite comic book movies or ComicCon hits. If not, then i suggest you watch the Peoples Choice Awards and revel at Michael Bay sweeping the night with Transformers Dark Side of the Moon.
yea, i kept waiting for something real to happen. the only real drama was finding out how the outbreak took place. too bad it took 1.5 hours to reveal. Spoiler also, i thought Matt Damon's character's reaction to the tragedies he witnessed was very strange. after his wife dies, he has a minor spurt with the doctor...no crying. when his step son dies, IIRC it was even less of a reaction. WTF?
I'm confused as to how the rapid, global spread of a deadly virus does not qualify as "something real".
well, THAT "something real" was a given. the movie didn't seem to go anywhere. maybe after so many pandemic movies, there's only so much you can do.
Solid movie all around, well directed and acted. Some of the subplots are under worked to the point of being useless and it loses some speed in the 3rd act, kind of just ends. A solid film, like a very extravagant "what if" documentary.
Yeah this is pretty much how I felt. It's a straight "virus movie", nothing more or less. More about the plot than an actual story. It was decent.
Fun rebuttal but I'm not a fanboy by any means. Just asserting that Oscars by the very nature of their structure doesn't ensure that the best pictures are always nominated or win.
wasted $33.00 on 2 imax tix to see this yesterday. There was very little "anarchy and death" shots and plenty of following the doctor around the lab and/or while he was on the phone shots......wish I had those 2 hours back.
Very solid film. Enjoyed the science angle. Could have easily turned into another cookie cutter pandemic flick but grounding it in science and politics gave it a fresh perspective. Loved Kate Winslet, Morpheus and the Doctor research lady.
Marion Cotillard on the Daily Show... I agree, solid is an apt description. I found it very entertaining, and far more tense than suspense or horror movies because this is somewhat plausible. I don't think I have any interest in watching it again though. I don't always need a movie with a typical story arc, climactic resolution, or moral lesson at the end. What happens, happens. And you see it from multiple angles. Recommended.
Saw it tonight and I liked it. My friends thought it was boring but they went in thinking it was going to be an action type flick when it really wasn't. I enjoyed the realism portrayed in the movie. Overall a solid film.
Thought it lacked in the character development department, but still entertaining. Slightly disappointed.
BTW I thought the score was pretty good. Reminded me a little of Trent Reznor's work on The Social Network.
thought it was boring and awful, and i'm pretty sure that if it didn't have so many stars and soderbergh (so overrated) attached to it, 99% of people would agree. Outbreak was better than this.
It was good but not quite great. I think the biggest criticism I have is that for a movie showcasing a global pandemic in which tens of millions of people are dying, it was surprisingly devoid of any authentic human emotion. Like the virus itself, the characters were too cold and calculating, even in their attempts at sympathy.
