Remake of the 2003 Park Chan-wook Korean classic.

    Uh... no.

Loved the original. Saw the original region 3 (I think?) version on a hacked DVD player. Loved that it was eventually released here. Figured this re-make would suck.

But, it actually doesn't look quite as bad as I thought it might be. At the least, I figure it should be good for a few laughs.

 LOL! Even the crate-opening scene is the same view, same take, everything.

That credits screen at the end of the trailer should say:
"A SPIKE LEE film he copied from Park Chan-Wook"

Do U.S. directors not have a mind of their own anymore? Running out of ideas? Resorting to copying other countries' good stuff? I know, it's been going on for years... I know this is going to fail big time.

I got the original sitting on my shelf, have yet to see but been meaning to. That said I thought Departed was a pile of s**t compared to Infernal Affairs...so I wouldn't expect this particular remake to be any better.

But having never seen the first, the trailer looks decent.

As a Korean, I am not happy about this. Not because it's being remade, but because it's being remade by Spike Lee, who I consider a race-baiting hack. He will find a way to make Oldboy about racism.

Looks too similar to the original to convince me that there's a reason for the remake.

But there is soo much more to the movie than just the interesting plot and twist. The cinematography, the action coordination (the one-take hallway scene? are you kidding me?), the acting, etc.

Not sure why Spike Lee of all people wanted to do a remake, but I like Spike and I liked Oldboy, so maybe this will be worth a VOD rental.
