I felt it was long-winded in parts, but not necessarily to the point that it bothered me...just to the point that I became aware of it. In my opinion, the very best movies don't let that happen. Still a very solid movie with some great dialogue, some really strong performances, and a few cringe worthy moments for good measure. Definitely recommended.
<facepalm> Ugh, I hate being the douche that doesn't read an entire thread and then makes an ass out of himself... </facepalm>
Fantastic movie. Only Tarantino can deliver something like this. Stiglitz was easily my favorite character. He was so badass, and at the same time perfect fodder for some of the best comedic moments. Spoiler Too bad he died. I was looking forward to seeing him kick some more ass as the movie progressed.
i was just reading about the box office and noticed this little tidbit regarding international box office numbers... http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/Movies/08/23/boxoffice.ew/index.html
Saw it this past weekend and I loved it, a real accomplishment for QT. Think he really out did himself here. A lot of people are talking about the violence and blood but didn't think it was as bad as some people are making it out to be, it's pretty sporatic and what there is pretty hard but nothing most haven't seen before. That bar scene was just fantastic along with the opening.
Hey, there is nothing wrong with us teenagers! I've only seen movies on Friday/Saturday nights this summer, and I've noticed that, while the theater is completely packed, everyone is well behaved. I guess that's where I go.
It was cool, but after a while I realized that it was a bunch of conversations, one after another, where someone wanted to "make a deal." Some of it seem forced, unlike in Pulp Fiction or Kill Bill. But still, it was a highly entertaining movie.
Just saw it again last night. As expected, WAY better with a second viewing. Still think it should have been a 2-parter. There seems to be less about the Basterds than everyone else. Did you know? Spoiler The part of Donny Donowitz (the Bear Jew) was originally written for Adam Sandler.
Spoiler So how did he end up in the back of the truck with Aldo with a bag over his head, in hand cuffs, sitting across the table talking to the colonel?
Spoiler I think he was outside acting as a lookout. He was already in the truck when they took Aldo out.
I misunderstood, you're right. That really bothered me too, I looked for it the second time around, still no explanation?
Good movie. I would say there were several very good scenes, the best scene was definitely Spoiler the movie theater scene. Absolutely brilliant. When Dreyfus was laughing hysterically on the screen while it burned up, the effect was perfect. It was amazing yet apocalyptic and evil at the same time. I also liked the many deaths in this movie to relatively important characters.
Watch "better" movies at "better" theaters (Angelika?), or watch them on Sunday afternoon. Also, try waiting until the second or third week of their showing: especially with blockbuster type films that are around for 2-3 months.
I just go to the movies on Saturday morning, usually the first showing, solves the teenager problem. If I go and see a movie at night it'll be at the studio grill
I saw it yesterday and really enjoyed it. I'm not sure I put it up there with Pulp Fiction, but it's right up there. It dragged in a couple places just a tad too much, but at the same time it didn't feel like they rushed through the scene to get the next one. It was almost as if you were seeing parts of each chapter exactly how it would have played out with out any editing.
