[Cinema] Ryan Gosling in Drive Nicolas Winding Refn won best director at Cannes. He did Bronson and Valhalla Rising which can be streamed on Netflix. It's a neo noir in the vein of early Michael Mann. Cast is impeccable Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Bryan Cranston, Christina Hendricks, Ron Perlman & Albert Brooks. <object id="vid_4e25e773dad0bd5454000129" class="ign-videoplayer" width="480" height="270" data="http://media.ign.com/ev/prod/embed.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"><param name="movie" value="http://media.ign.com/ev/prod/embed.swf" /><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#000000" /><param name="flashvars" value="url=http://www.ign.com/videos/2011/07/21/drive-red-band-trailer"/></object><div style="width:480px"><a href="http://www.ign.com/videos/2011/07/21/drive-red-band-trailer">More Drive (2011) Videos</a></div>
Best date movie ever? So Drive was a hit at Cannes in May, it was also a hit at the LA Film Festival on July, it's getting amazing reviews, it's an existential action film, it's a love story, it has a retro 80's electro score, it apparently has guys developing a serious man crush on Ryan Gosling and it's his best performance. Why are international trailers better? <iframe width="560" height="345" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/T0ehK7BG7KM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
This is the best movie this year. Retro 80's neo noir with a dash of David Lynch. ....and if you don't think so, you watch Bravo and think Anderson Cooper is dreamy.
Very, very different. Saw it last night. I really liked it. Director understands that so much can be conveyed with looks. Dialogue is very sparse, but effective. I loved it. The wife didn't love it, she thought it was slow. Ryan Gosling and Albert Brooks were magnificent. Brooks in particular had some moments that blew me away, partly because I've never seen him play this type of role before.
