I'd call the first Xmen or Spiderman enjoyable. The Avengers was not just enjoyable, it was epic. The action scenes maxed out my comic book geekness with a bar set low by horribly underperforming comic book movie adaptations.

The thing is that Joss is right. Too many times the people involved licensing these movies cash out. I thought Green Lantern had potential with Geoff Johns having a hand in the story and production, but everything didn't translate well and failed miserably. So it takes a lot more effort to make these movies work than an original story, and it isn't as easy as ripping off years of source material and putting a camera behind it.

RDJ is gonna get paid, no doubt. The issue is with the other actors, who are going to want to get as much as he is gonna get. But they're not as valuable as he is. So good luck with that.

Because every other cast member is expendable, just a bunch of generic names. As long as RDJ is in the film, every other actor could be replaced, and zero ####s will be given.

Plenty ####s were given when they recanted Bruce Banner.

There were some folks on the internet who were in a tizzy, but The Avengers still made a billion dollars. So, the ####s given weren't that big of a deal.

    Meant recast*. Stupid iPhone.

Yea I agree with you I didn't care either way but there's always going to be that group that's b****ing about a recast. Like with RDJ, I can't see anyone else as Tony Stark so they should pay him first and foremost.

Same goes with Christian Bale for me. Live him as Bruce Wayne. I wish DC would just throw 50 million his way to reprise his role in other DC movies. :(

I know people keep mentioning the $1 billion figure, but tbh how much of that $1 billion does Marvel see? I thought in general, the cinemas get 40-50% already, and then you have all your distributors, marketing, the budget itself of course, rights etc. Of course Hollywood accounting is well known for being able to make any film look like its made a loss (I think you can make the entire Harry Potter franchise look like a loss too).

Funny how all of y'all automatically side with the actors...

Downey owes his entire career to Marvel Studios. He's a great actor, he also fell off the face of the planet and nobody wanted to deal with him anymore. These other guys are getting huge boosts out of it too. The guys playing Captain America and Thor aren't real actors, they're getting roles because of the work they put in for Marvel.

It's like that episode of Entourage - you do a superhero movie and you're sitting court side at a Lakers, that's just how it is.

If it's about money they should all go do an Avengers sitcom, that's how you make money acting.

Now yeah, they deserve to be making more money, but Marvel isn't some evil behemoth. Pretty sure they've had to declare bankruptcy not too long ago.

The only guy with the real beef in this seemed to be Ed Norton and he's gone. Also, Rourke, not sure that role helped him.
