It'll make it all back and then some in DVD and Blu-Ray when parents realize this was a kid's movie, and it starts to be seen that way. Middle-school-age boys will eat this up, if not in theaters, then on disc and on demand and rentals.

Hopefully though, Will begins to understand that at best his son needs a lot of seasoning before he can ever be considered for leading roles again. He could probably do just fine in supporting roles, such as in things like Chronicle - smaller, concept-oriented films where he is not under so much pressure and can grow.

As a group . . . African American Lead Sci Fi Films
    took a major hit.
I know a lot of guys who write and produce
or more importantly WISH To produce these kinds of films
often say . . . they are told
    They simply don't make money

Their is no audience for African American Sci Fi / Fantasy etc

IF the biggest African American Draw in Show Biz can't put butts in the seat . . . .
it gets harder on the next guy to get on produced.
It will have to be a MUCH LOWER budget and much lower risk

What the heck is African American Sci Fi?
If you mean Sci Fi that has an African American lead then I'm not sure what you mean they won't make money. Are we talking about the same African American lead who has lead the following Sci Fi blockbusters - Independence Day, MiB, MiB2, MiB3, Wild Wild West, I Am Legend, Hancock, and I, Robot?
Those weren't all great movies but they sure made money so I have no idea what you're talking about.

The blacks have a rich cinematic history within the realm of Sci Fi. Leonard Part 6 & Pluto Nash being the pinnacles of said history.

they all have one thing in common . . . they guy that just made AFTER EARTH
was the star in all of them . .. . .
    and
generally . . they have a ONE MAIN BLACK PERSON character rule.

I,Robot . .the next major African American character was Chi McBride as the Cheif.

Don't make this a black thing, man.

Every black, white, brown, or green actor has their own CATWOMAN.

Even Robert De Niro couldn't save [The Adventures of] Rocky & Bullwinkle.

    Never said it was

However, I am not going to lie
And act like black writers, directors, etc have it easy.
I am not going to lie and act like I have not read articles or post
From people in the industry about how hard it is to get a green light
Esp with a project that is minority driven.

I challenged any one who claim I am playing the race card to show the post in this thread where I said people did not like it because they black. If you cannot I invite you to shut the f#@)@ up.

You basically just described Hollywood the way John Singleton has. It sucks, but Hollywood producers tend to have a cynical attitude about casting non-white leads. Of course, you knew that by not pretending to be colorblind you were opening the door for the race baiters, right? It is the new PC.

The movie sucked. You can't expect the biggest star in the world to carry every single film he does. It's just not realistic. Attempts to inject race into the equation don't hold up to scrutiny. No actor, regardless of race, could have saved this movie. Chalk it up to chutzpah, a cursed director, bad timing, whatever, but leave race out of it.

And his kid needs to work his way up the ladder, not try to pole vault into alpha roles in big budget films. Ron Howard's daughter tried the same thing, and she also failed miserably, ironically with the same director.

The claim isn't that the movie sucked because he is black. The claim is that black producers, writers, and actors fear that the taint of this movie may rub off on other black Hollywooders, as such things have happened in the past.

    There is a difference.
