Twist... this movie is based on Scientology -- there are apparently numerous nods to the pillars of the pseudo religion in this film.

And guess what's going on in Tom Cruise's new movie with a very similar premise.

When will producers finally stop giving money to M. Night Shyamalan?

8% on tomatometer and if that won't make you want to watch the movie, it also has Jaden Smith and directed by M. Night???? Do you see a pattern there?

Wouldn't be surprised if this has a strong opening then nose dives bad once the general public finds out they've been Shyamalan'd!

That picture alone is insufferable. I think Smith noticed his own dwindling shelf life after Twenty Pounds and is trying to get his kid some name recognition and industry contacts, for what could very well end up being a production or management career, while he himself still has some bank-ability and leverage. Also, I believe other actors and especially producers and directors do the same thing with their kids, but maybe more so behind the camera or with agencies, publicity companies or even publications or TV networks.

I don't think it's a survival thing, I think it's moreso an ego thing. His career mortality I'm sure is a factor but I'd guess it's that he wants to keep the Smith name on the charts. Like some celebrity divine right.

    Liar

Love Will Smith, but his son and Shyamalan are terrible. Will Smith's accent in this movie sounds awful. Why do that at all?

They still let this guy direct movies?

When they stop making money. Last Airbender made $325 mil internationally.

Because of Shyamalan or despite him? I find it hard to believe people paid to see that movie just because he directed it. That's an excuse that works for why series (like Fast and Furious before they got kind of good) or types of films (like those awful spoof movies) continue to get made. But it doesn't quite work for directors. People might do that for actors. Some for maybe a select handful of directors, but Shmayalan isn't one of them. Not anymore.

It only made 320 total, and of that 131 was domestic compared to the 150 million production budget alone. Studios don't get a lot from international revenues, so it's possible it didn't make any money for the studio at all.

I guess M Knight has become the new Uwe Boll though. Maybe his movies do just well enough and this one probably will too with Will Smith attached.

It's a shame because I'm a sucker for sci-fi, even less than stellar sci-fi. This...I will wait for netflix and when I'm up for a bad movie night.
