Hopefully will see this tomorrow. Casino Royal is my favorite Bond overall and like donkey said, quantum is a lot better if watched with casino. It's still not incredible but probably about mid pack if you compare it to the franchise.
The wife and I just saw Skyfall. Generally she likes action movies but isn't a big fan of Bond---nothing against the films, just wasn't a big part of her culture---but she liked Skyfall, and I highly recommed it. It's a long movie, nearly 2.5 hours, but to me, when the story and characters are involving, then it's well worth it. Javier Bardem was excellent. Over the top? Mmh, depends on your point of view. His character is like a highly intelligent butch queen, unmistakable homoerotic tendencies; and toward the end he gets downright scary in one scene (and I'll leave it at that). I only wish he'd had more dialogue. Daniel Craig is an awesome Bond. A real actor who inhabits the part. Dame Judi Dench gets a lot of screen time and she's spot-on excellent. Berenice Marlohe does a decent job in her few scenes. When she's wearing a dress or robe: dat ass! I liked the action scenes. Not too much, not too little. At the beginning they used the same location for a chase as you'd see in "Taken 2", except this movie is very good and that one was saved from complete disaster only by Maggie Grace in tight shorts/jeans (hey, I'm just being honest). I'd say this one ranks among the top 5 Bond films, and redeems the series from Quantum of Solace's misstep.
Saw it last night. It's too long really but it was decent. Nowhere near as good as Casino Royale but better than Quantum of Solace. Judi Dench has grown really tired for me so I didn't like all of her involvement in the movie. The Bond girl was disappointing really. Bardem was pretty good, I wish he'd been in it more.
Agreed that it was too long. I thought that there were many plot holes in the movie; I would list them here, but I don't know how to do the spoiler tag.
Good movie - didn't feel like a Bond film for the last half hour though Spoiler went too Bourne Identity instead In fact Spoiler There were several points in the movie that reminded me of other movies: Loki in the 'cage', TDKR in China, Batman on the ice, Jackie Chan with the briefcase fight, Bourne defense in the remote house, Bourne car chase in Turkey/Russia. Right? Love Adele's song though - that really feels like a Bond song and movie intro Spoiler Bond not being a sentimental character, I was surprised they went with the Skyfall plotline and showed us where he grew up. Perhaps he was sentimental with that stuff, but having it blown to smithereens probably helped in get over that for the remaining Bond movies/characters.
Spoiler My thought when they revealed the old aston martin overall I really enjoyed it. The story was great IMO. Looking back at the roots of bond in the second half of the film was interesting as well as the introduction at the end of the new crew at MI6
Spoiler when they revealed the old car it car followed by the classic Bond sound got a big ovation at Alamo drafthouse. Then a big laugh when M told him go ahead and eject her from the car.
That Aston was freaking sweet. The way Bond was basically playing defense instead of actively going after the bad guy seemed out of place to me. Didn't like that aspect.
Just saw it. I don't know why my friends and most the people I spoke to said it wasn't good. It was good. I guess their main gripe was that there were no gadgets nor a bond girl. I, too, would like to see some gadgets, but this bond movie did well in spite of their absence. The lack of a chick was weird as well. However the story made up for it. The action scene in that glass house was that of the kick ass.
Spoiler Loki? Yes. Add in Hannibal Lector. Turkey chase = last Bourne movie + Taken 2 but better than last Bourne movie and no Maggie Grace in ass-hugging jeans (damn!)
Just like a bold or an italics: [ spoiler ] to start with (but no spaces) and then [ / spoiler ] after your text (with no spaces) Spoiler For example, how Silva reached M in the first place; how would he know she would be there that long? That she wouldn't have evacuated to safety. There were some plot holes, but it was a very good movie. Don't think it was too long at all. After all, these films only arrive once every 2 (in this case, 4) years.
Some plot holes: Spoiler How did Bond survive the opening scene? And from the train scene of Turkey to the exotic island, how did he have the money / means to get from point A to point B? And didn't Eve Moneypenny shoot Bond? The only wound seemed to have been from Patrice. Spoiler So, the Bond girl knowingly gets on the boat, has Bond get on with her, and both eventually are 'captured' by Silva. If the Bond girl wanted to be saved, shouldn't she have worked out a better plan with Bond BEFORE setting sail on the boat? Even though Bond pushed the distress signal, Bond should have saved the girl before the dueling pistols thing. I thought Bardem was excellent. Spoiler His introduction with the rats and the sound effects that accompanied it, along with his homoerotic actions was so creepy.
I agree w Han Solo. Javier Bardiem was the Spanish Joker lol. Movie was good but I still think Casino Royale is still the best one out of the three with Daniel Craig. Man those shots of Shanghai were awesome. I need to plan a trip there soon.
The director actually used The Dark Knight as inspiration for this film. http://screenrant.com/skyfall-interview-sam-mendes-james-bond-dark-knight/
