Well, Avengers set the bar so high for movies in the "superhero and / or summer blockbuster" category. There's nothing wrong with expecting humor, in addition to action, in a movie like this. There was a part where Godzilla was fighting on TV, and Ford's son said "look, mommy! Dinosaurs!" That had the people in my theater, in fits lol. I liked the movie a lot. Cranston's character exited the the movie too quick, but I guess that, after the exposition, his character didn't have a role in all the action. Loved all the teases the director gave, regarding partial showings of Godzilla, before the whole picture. That roar and the growling that followed was scary and eerie. It's too bad they didn't really leave an obvious sequel path available. I thought maybe there would be a fun enemy reveal ("A new challenger arrives!) kinda thing.
No surprise here after it's strong opening. Link: http://www.deadline.com/2014/05/godzilla-2-sequel-warner-bros-legendary-gareth-edwards/
Saw it the other day but forget to post. Enjoyed the movie a lot, one of the few films I've seen in recent times that made me feel like a kid again. Bad ass movie. 8.8/10
7.5/10 Very enjoyable, summer blockbuster. Had several inspirations from Jurassic Park too. I highly recommend seeing it on the silver screen.

i loved the fact they didn't spoil the movie with the trailers. Spoiler i watched the godzilla movies growing up but it had been awhile since i cared for any of them. i'd forgotten if godzilla was a good or bad guy and i never suspected another monster(s). was fully expecting him to go on a rampage of San Fran. so glad they didn't go with the humans vs godzilla route. i definitely got the feels as he tore the MUTO's face apart.
I would definitely say that the trailers didn't spoil anything for me. Day of going to see the movie, it was spoiled that Godzilla would fight other monsters. I was expecting slow build up with Godzilla as a force of nature.
Spoiler Good movie, but I felt like it would have been perfect if they had added about 10+ more minutes of Godzilla time. They wouldn't have to remove any content, just make the movie 10+ minutes longer.
Excellent entertaining flick. It somewhat was reminiscent of a Jurassic Park movie with its openings, the wide shots of the mining areas, the trailing panning of the large tracks, etc. SwoLy-rating:  8/10 Spoiler I was expecting the jaw being split away from the skull a'la King Kong vs. Dinos... but this was a bit more entertaining. Still wondering why the fire is blue. In regards to some continuity, mistakes? Spoiler Why would there be a land trail for the Muto from its hatching nest to the sea? Wouldn't it have flown away?
Saw it yesterday and loved it! Very much a classic Godzilla flick, which surprised me. I was afraid we'd see another Pacific Rim kind of mess. For anyone who saw all those old Godzilla films with the rubber models and the like, like I did, this is gold. Gold, I tell ya!
It was probably a "learn to crawl before you can walk" situation. Spoiler I had never seen Godzilla before (bits and pieces of the Broderick film), so my jaw kinda dropped when Godzilla "hyper beamed" the first time. Is that part of 'Zilla's history / lore, or is that an original thing put in by the director? Also, Zilla didn't glow the second time he HB'd. Another continuity error? Or was he already "charged" up the first time?
Spoiler atomic breath isnt new. Like you said since you hadnt seen the older godzilla movies it seemed original.
4/10 Maybe because I was burnt out from being out all day and frying my brain .. Caught the 10 pm showing last night. Man was this movie putting me to sleep. Such a slow paced movie. Bad dialogue. Horrible actors with the exception of Bryan Cranston. Non-existent plot. Even the cgi for Godzilla was bad. I didn't have any expectations, so it's not like I was dissapointed. I didn't care much for Godzilla before and I don't care about him after this movie. IMO pacific rim was a much better movie, with much better cgi and a much better fight sequence.
Was the skeleton where the male MUTO hatched a Godzilla-type Kaiju, a MUTO parent, a whale, or other/unknown? I had assumed it was a Godzilla-type Kaiju so that the MUTO hatchlings could feed off of the radiation of its corpse.
I had assumed it was the original MUTO female that had died and used her body to fuel the eggs. There wasnt anything in terms of scales (at least from what I remember seeing) there for it to be another godzilla type creature. I loved the movie - I saw it in a theater equipped with Dolby Atmos surround sound -- freaking amazing - my balls were shaking when Godzilla roared. Looks like there are 5 theaters in the Houston area that have a screen equipped with Dolby Atmos. Not all movies are mixed with Atmos either - but it seems most if not all the summer's "blockbuster" films are here is some more info about Atmos for those more curious http://www.dolby.com/us/en/consumer/technology/movie/dolby-atmos.html I would give the movie a solid 8.5/10
LOL about complaining about the story and actors. It's a Godzilla movie, he's the plot and the star. Loved it, loved the build up, loved the fights, loved the ending. 8/10, it's not schindler's list, nor is it supposed to be, it's f**king Godzilla. I got excited when he started glowing because I knew what was coming next. Spoiler The way he killed the second moster, right down the throat, that was bada**. I'm guessing they go with alien monster in the second one. They did a solid job of setting it up too, Godzilla doesn't give a damn about humanity, he just wants to make sure he's the biggest dog in the yard.
If you are going to focus a lot of time to the human story, don't make it annoying. I enjoyed the Godzilla part of the plot. I enjoyed the build up. There were just too many times that I felt the humans were incredibly annoying in the second half of the movie.
