Looks interesting . . . in the Pirates of Silicon Valley kind of way. Seems more TBS than Big Screen to me Rocket River
Somebody didn't see the basketball scene in Soul Man. Or the Louisiana Purchase, Emancipation Proclamation, Sherman Anti-Trust act, Second World War or that whole Civil Rights / Apollo space program thing.
for those interested, there is a free screening of this at Studio Movie Grill this thursday at the Town/Country location, at 730pm, just gotta show up at around 6pm to get wristbands that guarantees u in msg me and I'll forward you the email and just print it out
I can only speak for myself and every other person I've seen that trailer with in the theater, but we all felt it looked dumb as hell. I think a lot of the reason people are speechless at the end of the theatrical trailer is because they end it on a joke that falls completely flat on its face. Will not be seeing this until at least a DVD release.
Facebook co-founder Dustin Moskovitz called the film a "dramatization of history...it is interesting to see my past rewritten in a way that emphasizes things that didn't matter," he said. According to Moskovitz, "A lot of exciting things happened in 2004, but mostly we just worked a lot and stressed out about things; the version in the trailer seems a lot more exciting, so I'm just going to choose to remember that we drank ourselves silly and had a lot of sex with coeds. It looks ok, I'll wait for the reviews to pour in, and decide whether to see it.
I don't think it will be good. The trailer tries to sell itself. When all that money goes into advertising for a movie like this it usually sucks. I don't think it will be accurate either.
Different but somewhat related, anyone seen the trailer for Catfish? Since its about some guy falling for some girl over Facebook, I thought it was somewhat appropriate to be in here. <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/AFKe75Q6eVw?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/AFKe75Q6eVw?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object> Anyways looks good, great reviews from Sundance.
i think the movie looks interesting. but i read the book and its a really fascinating story. i too think justin timberlake is a good actor. see alpha dog. jt does a great job.
Timberlake haters kinda bother me. It's like no matter what he does, he'll never be good enough. He can sing (you may not like his style, but he's good at it). He plays at least two instruments that I know of (guitar and piano). He can act (very good in "Alpha Dog" and was hilarious in his appearances on SNL). Just because he was in a boy band and was on the Mickey Mouse Show doesn't mean he has no talent.
Here's the REAL story of Zuckerberg, if anyone's interested: http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2010/09/20/100920fa_fact_vargas It's pretty long, but it's very interesting to me (as a programmer).
I think the movie looks great. I get annoyed that so many people are saying, "Who would want to watch a movie about facebook?!?" What should be understood is that is isn't really ABOUT facebook. It's about an extremely intelligent, yet socially r****ded inventor that created something with a group of people and then allegedly stole it from them. It's about how people tend to get burned when unchecked ambition overtakes a person. It's about greed and betrayal, about how a lot of money can fundamentally change someone... and the cherry on top is that sex with coeds and drug abuse is involved. Facebook is just a mcguffin... the movie is about the journey, not the destination. And if Sorkin and Fincher collaborated on a movie called "I constantly murder puppies" starring 98 degrees, I would at least give it a chance. Those guys are awesome.
I'm mildly curious in a "I am going to see it one way or another at least some time in the next 5 years" a la Pirates of Silicon Valley, because it involves something I'm interested in (not facebook, just the development of websites/how they can blow up all of a sudden, etc) Should be an ok movie. Hopefully.
Free 5 song sampler from the movie by Trent Reznor http://dealzon.com/deals/get-a-the-social-network-sampler-ep-by-trent-reznor-and-atticus-finch-free
Agreed. I love Aaron Sorkin more than any heterosexual man should love another man. I'll watch anything the man writes.
He's TV work is hit and miss for me. I liked the West Wing, really enjoyed Sports Night for a while, but was so crushed that Studio 60 wasn't better. Those are the best lines of dialoge that Chandler Bing and the bad guy from Billy Madison are ever going to read in their lives. Unfortunately, everyone outside of them were insufferable. I do think that "The American President" and "A Few Good Men" are just such polished, interesting scripts. So well written... and teaming that with a visual superstar like Fincher... I think it's going to be gangbusters.
Movie is getting extremely positive reviews. One even compared it to Citizen Kane http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the-social-network/
From the first time I saw the preview I thought this looked like a steaming pile of ass, but it looks like I should kill a crow and preheat the oven. Comparisons to The Graduate? Citizen Kane? The Godfather? Seriously?
