This movie made me cringe a lot (not in "this movie blows" kinda way), rather, that whole subconscious empathy theory thing. Liked it, but no matter how you slice it this is a movie about ballet. I drew some wood, not gonna lie.
I'm probably in the minority, but I came away disappointed. 1) This movie had the subtlety of one going through constipation (Portman's expression say it all). 2) The use of body doubles in key scenes cheapened the experience. 3) This movie had some of the most trite dialogue ever. It's a credit to the actors considering the script they had to spew. "The only person standing in your way is you. Lose yourself!" 4) Showgirls + Fightclub - David Fincher = Black Swan. 5) The music is great. Enhances every nail biting scene. I'm beginning to think The Wrestler was Aranofsky's Swan Song considering The Fountain and now Black Swan.
Going to see it tonight. A little disappointed my wife's cousin didn't invite us to the Hollywood premier, but whatevah.
I thought Black Swan was great. I'd put it right behind Requiem as far as my favorite Aronofsky films go.
1:48 minute panic attack. I never noticed that. Are you sure? Barbara Hershey was as creepy as the mom in Carrie.
Have you seen the Fountain? Amazing film if you take into account none of the backgrounds are CGI, all real sets!
enjoyed it.........perhaps not as much as I thought I was going to. But if I'm still thinking about it three days from now, that will be the real judge. Natalie Portman has the chops to be one of the greatest of all times. Of course, we knew that seeing her as a kid in the Professional and Beautiful Girls.
Kind of love how completely decieving the trailer is. Natalie Portman is so going to win an oscar for this and I think Aronofsky should too.
Was finally able to see it last night with the wife - great movie. It's one of those movies that really is like a masterpiece painting - a work of art. Hadn't seen a movie like that since a Kubrick one, really. My wife was somewhat disappointed as she didn't like some of the scenes (most notably the infamous one between Portman and Kunis doing... & that was the same scene that caused an older couple to get up and leave, lol) & she wasn't crazy about the ending but I had to explain to her that a movie like that isn't your normal movie. Great score and acting all around, Portman should get the oscar for best actress and Aronofsky should get the oscar for best director. This movie reminded a lot of a Radiohead album - every time you watch it, you see something or pick up on something that you didn't before. EDIT - Let me rephrase my last sentence and say that it is a movie that demands multiple viewings because every time you watch it, you will probably see something that you didn't before (like listening to a Radiohead album).
Not really, I mean there are maybe 2 strong sexual scenes but the movie as a whole is just distrubingly beautiful, to me it reminded me more of Requiem tonally and visually.
I got to see this last night. I was impressed by it and thoroughly entertained. It has this dark vibe to it.. Oh and Natalie Portman/Mila Kunis sex scene ftw!
I just saw this and it is incredible, Natalie Portman would deserve the Oscar if she wins it. Darren Aronofsky keeps outdoing himself, The Wrestler was great but to me Black Swan is even better.
