Really looking forward to this one. Great casts except for Penelope Cruz. Her bad accent just make her sound like a bad actress for me somehow. Her words just doesn't come out right like she doesn't understand how to punctuate certain words.

I liked it but it's definitely not for everyone. I think it might have made a better book than a movie honestly.

Sooooooooo disappointed with this movie. Saw the cast and though it was a surefire amazing movie.

Ridley Scott has been kind of slipping lately. Hasn't had a real good movie since American Gangster.

I read the entire published screenplay, and it was kind of interesting, in a Cormac dark kind of way, but I kept thinking... this would be pretty terrible for a moving picture.

Did they have the "bolito" device in the movie? (I don't think it needs a spoiler if you haven't seen it yet... just a word... heh.)

Thought it was horrible also, such a waste of a cast and Cameron Diaz was so out of place....

I wanted to like it, but I was more excited about the cameo of
    Rosie Perez and John Leguizamo

yup, creative way of using it too,
    but disturbing....

There were a literary devices used that don't really translate to film at least not with a large mainstream audience. One example is that information regarding the plot is revealed in pieces and scattered about. You really have to pay attention. This is common in literature but it rarely works in film. The character's speaking in these long beautifully written parables/metaphors almost made it feel like a play. Again, rarely works in film.

Cinema is full of literary authors writing screenplays but the successes have always had a strong cinematic story teller. Jim Tompson/Nobakov & Kubrick, Hemingway/Faulkner & Hawks, Ridley Scott has always been more a cinematographer than a legit director.

I think a cast of lesser known actors and a director like Ang Lee/David Lych/PTA might have turned Cormac's story into a grade A neo noir.
