Yeah, I intentionally didn't read any posts in the thread before submitting.
Maybe I should be escorted from the arena for drinking too much beer and not taking the tourney SRSLY enough.

Just a suggestion, you might get better turnout for voting if it doesn't span over the weekend. I know I almost never look at Clutchfans on the weekend. It's more of a worktime thing during the week.

Yea, I sorta figured that was the case but decided to press on with it. The Sweet 16 and Elite 8 will be during the week and I probably should push the Final 4 back to next Monday with the Final being on Wednesday, February 23.

So, I missed the thread and my votes won't count, but just for funsies:

1 - Stanley Kubrick vs. 9 - Victor Fleming - as great as WoO is, I think Kubricks best work is superior. He also has great range, between the Shining, FMJ, and 2001
5 - Sidney Lumet vs. 4 - Orson Welles - I don't like Welles's work. I would much rather watch 12 Angry Men, Dog Day Afternoon, or Serpico
11 - Alfonso Cuaron vs. 3 - Ridley Scott - I like Cuaron's work, especially what he did with Children of Men (about as thrilling as you can make a movie about infertility), but it doesn't compare to Alien or Blade Runner
10 - John Hughes vs. 2 - Coen Brothers - Hughes made great 80s teen movies, though the writing was more critical than the directing. The Coen Brothers have a distinct and fantastic style from Raising Arizona to Big Lebowski to Fargo. No real contest

1 - Steven Spielberg vs. 9 - Ron Howard - Howard got by with a weak matchup in round 1. Jaws, ET, SPR, Indy, JP, so many great movies by Spielberg that blow away anything Howard has done
5 - Clint Eastwood vs. 4 - David Fincher - Eastwood is really good, but I don't think he can touch the thriller mastery of Fincher as seen in Fight Club, Se7en, Gone Girl, Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. The Social Network is a directorial masterpiece
6 - Tim Burton vs. 3 - James Cameron - Burton certainly has a recognizable and distinct style. It just isn't as good as the work Cameron does. Terminator blows every Burton film away. The direction of movies I like much less like Avatar and Titanic is also superior
7 - Frank Capra vs. 2 - Quentin Tarantino - I don't care for Capra's work overall. Tarantino wins running away

1 - Alfred Hitchcock vs. 8 - Wes Anderson - I like the quirky Wes Anderson slice of (very weird) life over the fraught Hitchcock, though both are great
5 - Kathryn Bigelow vs. 4 - John Ford - this is a style win. I prefer the intense thrills of Bigelow's Hurt Locker or Strange Days to the grand scope of Ford's westerns
6 - Michael Mann vs. 3 - Alejandro Gonzales Iñárritu - I love Last of the Mohicans and Heat, but I think I have to give the edge to Birdman and The Revenant
7 - Oliver Stone vs. 2 - Francis Ford Coppola - I really don't like FFC's slow, plodding style. I am not a huge Stone fan either, but I would rather rewatch some of his work

1 - Martin Scorsese vs. 9 - John Carpenter - this is a tough one. Both are great, but I like Carpenter's range more. The Thing, Big Trouble in Little China, Halloween, They Live, Escape from New York - just such diverse styles Scorsese is more focused
5 - Pedro Almodovar vs. 4 - Brian DePalma - still have not seen a film by Almodovar, he had a fortunate first round matchup
11 - Milos Forman vs. 14 - Mel Brooks - I like both, but comedy directors like Brooks don't get enough credit
10 - Guillermo del Toro vs. 2 - Christopher Nolan - this was a tough matchup. Nolan's use of time and space just edges out the beauty and atmosphere of del Toro's work
