Space debris has been a big problem for awhile. Every industrialized country or cable company puts up a satellite... and they're only good for a few years before they need another one.

Just a great movie experience. Saw it in IMAX 3D. Too bad this should have been shot in 48fps. Sandra Bullock was hot with that short haircut and her performance kinda remind me of Jodie Foster in Contact. Clooney almost screw up this movie for me like Matthew McConaughey did in Contact. 8.5/10.

Just watched it, deserving of all the good reviews.

There were many inaccuracies in this movie but at the moment I will leave it to my suspension of disbelief for the time being and enjoy the movie. Imagine if this movie didn't have any sound. Ugh.

Clooney was the perfect hotshot, veteran ace astronaut. I had my skepticism of whether either were the right fit, but they played their roles quite well.

And McConaughey was a good balance to Foster's beliefs in Contact. But to each their own.

Clooney can't act. He's just playing his damn boring self once again which is hard to suspense my disbelief with his acting chop.

    "I'm Batman".

As for McConaughey I'm about to watch Mud and will give him another chance. The damn guy is going to be starring in Nolan's Interstellar so I have to live with that choice. As for Sandra Bullock. Never was a fan of her since Speed but at least she redeem herself in this movie for me.

force = mass x acceleration... all 3 of those variables still exist in space. regardless of gravity.

Yes, but by the time he unhooked his tie-line, his acceleration had stopped (or, more accurately, had stopped in reference to Sandra Bullock). What force was acting on him at that point that would be pulling him away from her with enough force to pull her free from the ropes?

Isn't there still rotational/orbital forces that keep everything that is surrounding earth moving at a really fast speed?

Also, I don't think he ever stopped fully. She grabbed the tie cable as he was still moving and her being simply caught (not tied securely) in the ropes was not enough to cause a complete stop.

Maybe that was their intent that he hadn't come to a complete stop and was still drifting out, but it seemed to me she had slipped all the way down to the last little rope holding her foot and then they had the conversation about him needing to be cut loose. At that point it seemed to me he was not moving in relation to her.

I'm not really nitpicking. I loved he movie and this didn't bother me much, but it is something I thought about afterward and thought I'd ask because I figured there was some physics stuff I wasn't getting.

I took it as they are both moving the same direction initially. Only reason why her character is able to reverse things is because she is caught on the ropes. If she holds on to him, his added mass will increase the force already being applied to her, which outweighs the soft connection of being caught in the ropes.

I thought of it as a centrifugal force issue being tethered to the station while the station is moving. Think of it this way, he is not moving away from her, the station and her are moving away from him.

Regardless, who cares about the details. Really good movie.

Interesting to say for a guy that's been nominated for and won awards numerous times for his acting abilities. He certainly has a style that some may not like. But he can act. Using his absolute worst movie that he was completely miscast for is a fairly weak argument.

He won one Academy award for acting in Syriana and that was after campaigning like no other actor before him. His gaining weight gimmick coupled with his 'wow is me I hurt my back" story during every interview in print and media assured his win in a field that was lacking quality for 2006. And his smug speech

Truth is Clooney is one dimensional, he can only do Clooney. In the pantheon of male actors he's a poor mans Cary Grant imitation. Honestly. he's become a parody of himself.

I'm not gonna argue that he's a versatile actor because he's not obviously. But he's still good at what he does. And he played the veteran astronaut just fine.

I think often times he PLAYS Clooney because that's what he's best at and the results have born out that people (and especially the ladies) love to see him play Clooney, but the guy has done enough different types of roles to prove that he has a little more versatility than you are giving him credit for. He was fantastic in Oh Brother Where Art Thou and The American...both very different roles than his typical charming, smirking devilish rogue Clooney type cast.

Saw it in IMAX 3D. 8.5/10

The astounding cinematography and surprisingly great acting by Sandra Bullock made this a surprise. I liked the spiritual underpinning of her character's arc. There were some unintentionally hilarious moments with the protagonist, and I could definitely see some "Fuuu" or "Nooo" GIFs because of her unending plight from one obstacle to the next.

One of the best sci fi movies I've ever seen. Saw it on IMAX 3D.

The cinematography and compelling story could make it an modern sci fi classic. It definitely could win some awards later on as well.

Saw it on IMAX 3D. Costly as hell but worth it in the end because I really enjoyed it all.
