i don't want you to take him back. Briles is the best coach Baylor has had since Teaff. I realize that's not saying much, however.
....and also in the Chronicle, Keenum is exploring his NFL options. Perhaps Case knows something we don't about Sumlin? Regardless, Sumlin might be wise to head to a BCS conference before he's stuck with a Cougar team w/o Case Keenum. Coaching's a lot easier with a strong QB
Cotton Turner would put up similar numbers in this offense if he was the starting QB. This offense has a ton of weapons and all of them are returning next year.
You've said Keenum is a system QB multiple times on this forum, so which is it? You can't have it both ways depending on what anti-Coog argument you want to make. Either it is a good system that anyone can QB, or he's a good QB. Make up your mind.
If Sumlin gets an offer from Cincinnati he should take it. Cincinnati is a nice step up from Houston. The Big East is not on the same level as the Big 12 or the SEC when it comes to football, but it does have some schools that have had good programs in the past. West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Louisville; these are not bad football schools. Three of the top seventeen ranked teams are from the Big East this year. There is no guarantee Keenum will stay another year, and Houston will probably have a difficult time matching what they did on the field this year. If you are a coach in CUSA and you have a chance to move up to a real conference, you must leave while you have the opportunity. Goodbye Sumlin.
He's a very good qb in a system that allows for putting up good stats. That should not be that difficult for you to understand.
1) Are you familiar with Cincinatti? They're almost UH's doppleganger. 2) Keenum will not be rated higher than a 2nd day pick and will stay another year, I guarantee it. 3) UH's schedule is actually similar next year, replacing OOC games vs. NWU, vs. TTU, @ #5 OK State, and @ Miss St with games @ TTU, @ UCLA, vs. Miss St, and vs. Navy... another 10 win season and a preseason top 25 ranking looks very likely. 4) Sumlin is young and can get himself a much more prestigious job and a bigger payday by exercising a tiny amount of patience. He's no dummy, I expect him to get his payday here and then find a comfy landing spot in the Big Ten/12/SEC.
Man I hope the scouts give him a bad report because if they say 2nd or 3rd rd pick Case is gone and so are those 2010 BCS dreams. Then Sumlin may go to Cincy? This s*** sucks
There is alot of real potential in Cincy. Historically , its been a bball school, but this year proves that they can play big time football. They are the 3rd best team in the country and can compete with Ohio State (alpha dog in conference/state). If I were Cincy I would throw him the $$$ to continue the success. If I were Sumlin I would take the job/$$$ and continue the momentum. PS: IF he fails , there will be another ConUSA school that will hire him, but IF he stays at UH and they don't take the next step, the big boys wont be calling.
If I'm Kevin Sumlin, I'm about to negotiate an extension at Houston, so I'm probably going to go interview everywhere I can to drive up my asking price. I expect he'll interview at Kansas, too.
Man, I told my friend yesterday I was afraid tat Cincinnati would try to contact him, I think he should wait atleast one more year. I hope he stays with us, he deserves another shot to bring this UH team to a BCS, now that would be something...
I wouldn't worry about Sumlin leaving for Cincinnati. I would worry about Sumlin interviewing to gain some bargaining chips. Hopefully Sumlin realizes that another good year at UH could land him a job at a big BCS school. Cinci isn't that much of an upgrade IMO.
At Cinci, he'd be taking over a team that has won 10, 11, and 12 games the last 3 seasons, including two BigEast titles. If he maintains that program and proves he can win at the BCS level, he could jump in two years to a higher job. I don't think switching to Cinci really delays any future jump unless he was looking at next year. Brian Kelly was only at Cinci for 3 years and got to Notre Dame. I think from Houston, he'd probably be able to jump into the B12 at a place like Kansas or Baylor. From Cinci, he could more easily jump to a higher level job.
