Any bets Libby and Cheney (who was libby's task master) contributed to Bush '04 run? Anybody remember Bush's words of praise for Libby after his indictment and resignation?
fact. plenty of links in this thread. and your assertion would be patently false. there are plenty of other ways for her to "expose" "illegal" activity w/o also exposing a secret CIA program to our nations enemies.
This looks like wishful thinking on your part and is representative of the way lovers of autocracy are thinking these days... any attack on any aspect of Bush Administration rule is a personal attack. Perhaps she gave the details of a secret CIA program because it was illegal, immoral, and not in keeping with what this country stands for. The irony of course, is that Administration supporters claim that critics can't separate their criticisms from a hatred of Bush when the reality is the supporters can't see anything but their love for Bush.
Really? Can you come up with a single example of a way that she could have exposed this possibly illegal secret CIA program without exposing it?
ASking federal employees about which political party they are members of isn't a witch hunt? How can you call that freedom? It doesn't matter who she gave money to or voted for. Being a CIA employee doesn't mean one can't participate in the political process for whichever candidate they choose. It also doesn't mean that any action they take, is done from a motive of personal hatred from a different candidate. The program she exposed was immoral, illegal and Un-American in its very attitude. But if you are going to charge that it was done not because she objected to the immorality of such a program, but from a personal dislike of this administration then some sort of proof should back up your charge. In all of the links in this thread not one of them provides evidence that her dislike for Bush was the reason for exposing the immoral program.
Here's a link in this thread: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/04/22/AR2006042201442_2.html Whatever the motivation in this case, ... Others were sympathetic, saying many feel frustrated by a lack of debate over policies on the treatment of detainees that are seen as radical by many officers. "They're thinking Mary had nowhere else to go," said one former official who would only discuss the issue on the condition of anonymity. ... Richard Kerr, a deputy director of the CIA from 1989 to 1992 who worked with McCarthy at one point, described her as "a good, solid intelligence officer," based on his own experience. "She is not a firebrand kind of ideologue," he said, adding, "I don't know her motivation in this case." Where exactly is the fact that she did it as a personal vendetta on the Bush admin?
basso, sometimes I wonder what you're thinking. It's piling on, but what the hell does her party affiliation have to do with anything? It was the act of a patriot, in my opinion. She should be given the Medal of Freedom. (the highest civilian honor, I believe) What's next... that it was dirty partisanship? What a joke. What you just posted is as partisan as you can get, and then some. Keep D&D Civil.
Intelligence Community Whistleblower Protection Act? http://www.nytimes.com/2006/02/10/o...a42e100dc&ei=5090&partner=rssuserland&emc=rss
how ironic that she worked in the Inspector General's office, the very part of the CIA designated for "whistleblowers" to register their complaints...
And you would think that if she felt that her complaints would receive a fair airing, she would have done it that way. It seems quite apparent to anyone with a modicum of common sense that someone in that position would have better than a passing knowledge of how that hearing would go. Knowing that, she felt that the only way to get people to pay attention was through a press leak. She is a patriot for exposing an illegal program that even the president has denounced ("we do not torture") as wrong.
The fact that a CIA operative can be fired for leaking information about an immoral program while administration officials who leak the identities of CIA agents can keep working up until the day before they are indicted.
We have two apparent leaks. Leak #1 - Leaked the name of a classified CIA agent who was doing important work monitoring Iranian nuclear programs among other things. Her entire middle east network was comprimised. Leak #2 - An immoral program exporting people who haven't been proven guilty of anything to be torutred was comprimised.
