hahahahaaaaa my parents who live at Mason and Franz asked me about it recently. i was like "BELIEVE ME, YOU'LL LOVE IT!"
The prices? I dunno where you are used to eating, but they are pretty darn inexpensive. Most of the menu is under $10.
Only thing I dislike is how they (usually) bring you the chips and salsa, but it's not the creamy jalapeno, just the normal red sauce. I don't see why they don't just bring it out in the beginning instead of forcing people to ask for it, and new customers not knowing about it at all. Pugs Edit: Oh yeah, bring a framed picture of your dog (I know this is valid at the new one near Westheimer and Gessner) and get a free appetizer (or maybe just free queso).
It's not that i think Chuy's price range is expensive. I understand it's lower than other places, but i just dont think their food is even worth the 7-9 dollars. Everything both looked and tasted like it came straight out of a can or had been made well over a day ago. I'd rather pay 2 or 3 dollars more to get better quality food and maybe even larger portions. But I guess my POV is different being Mexican. Tex-mex just doesn't make sense sometimes. Why pay almost 7 bucks for 3 credit card sized dry quesadillas, at chuy's, when i can go to a taqueria and get a large quesadilla 1 and half times the size, same toppings, better tasting, and just put together for like 4 bucks?Even Chacho's seems like a better option to me. Better tasting quesadilla, larger, for about $7 bucks as well, maybe a few cents more. I think people are just paying more for a different atmosphere, which I guess is fine for some.
I like Chuy's and eat there occasionally. Having said that I think most of the food tastes the same but is just shaped different. The cream jalapeno is amazing, though. Even if you don't like the food, go to the bar, get a beer and just eat chips and that dip.
I think I may do this once tax season is over, Dave and Buster's is getting old, I need a change of scenery! Who's up for it!? Nobody? Oh well, more for me! Pugs
I've only eaten at Chuy's once, but I don't remember it being good or bad. I guess it was average. But this was years ago. I haven't been back since. I'm not a huge TexMex fan, though. Most of it makes you feel like you swallowed a boulder and then it comes out like spackle. But seriously, there are people that like Olive Garden and others who think it's utter crap. The best answer is try it yourself once and find out - be adventurous!
This is absolute blasphemy. El Tiempo and Ninfa's on Nav are far and away better than Chuy's. Chuy's has below average food. The only thing worth eating there is the creamy jalapeño dip.
Disclaimer/ I'm not a fAn of Tex-Mex Food is not dirt cheap compared to Mex. Btw Mex is better IMHO Jalapeño sAuce is too salty...overrated I'd rather go to a taqueria ..but if u like TExMex you'll probabaly like it.
I've had their chimichangas and thought it was pretty good. You can ask for it if it's not on the menu.
