Chuck is a defensive machine. He always holds his own even if he is undersized. He held Garnett and Aldridge in check when he was guarding him. Scola was eaten alive by Aldridge when Chuck came in. Even the TNT commentators were joking about how Chuck was in and not Scola or Landry. His defense is so underrated its not even funny
No....Scola and Aldridge were both scoring, it was fairly even, then you put in Hayes, and Aldridge stops scoring but so does Hayes....fairly even. DD
His post defense is OUTSTANDING......his rebounding against taller athletic players is average and his offense is PUTRID. Chuck Hayes should only be a situational player, the team is playing him too much. DD
He should still do it, knock a few guys upside the head ala Mutombo and you get more respect and room to operate. DD
It wasn't even. Aldridge was 11-15 from the floor through 3 quarters. All of those shots came with Scola in the game. Scola was mostly assigned to him (outside a stretch in the 2nd period, I believe). After Chuck entered the game in the 3rd, Aldridge was 1-6 the rest of the way. The Rockets outscored the Blazers by 6 during that stretch. Conversely, with Scola and Aldridge both on the court, the Rockets were outscored by 9 through the first 3 quarters. Scola had a good offensive game. Very good. But he really struggled defensively. Given the flow of the game, I'm not surprised at all that Adelman decided not to go back to Scola.
Love chucks D and hustle Can't score and no hops to get rebounds. I think Dorsey can do the same while putting in a couple of dunks and blocked shots. We are ridicoulsly unathletic.
As poorly as Yao played on offense, his size has been important to our defense. We were +16 yesterday with him in the game -- that's mostly attributable to his impact on defense. In the preceding 4 games, his defensive On/Off impact has been staggering: -21.8 per 100 defensive possessions with him on the floor. Translation: we desperately need another defensive backup with size.
she's a really solid ref.. bad call there, but she does a better job than the average NBA ref for sure..
I always find myself yelling at her.... even when i see her offciating at the beginning i know i am in for a long night!
Seems misleading that Yao was a +16, while Pryzbilla was a -11. It's pretty obvious that Pryzbilla played a big role in them winning by containing Yao. While Hayes' defense is a big asset to the team, I find it pretty sad that our 3rd string PF got more minutes than our starting PF yesterday. This is despite Scola shooting 70% from the floor.
Very good post. It's nice to see someone bring factual information in support of an argument. It's easy to get emotional about Yao's poor play. This shows how important he is even when playing poorly. We need a backup C.
How can it be misleading when +/- is strictly an on court off court production stat? When Yao was on the court, the rockets scored 16 points more than the Blazers. When Pryzbilla was on the court, the Blazers scored 11 points less than the Rockets. That's it. There's nothing misleading about a strict stat like that. It's a very simplified version of who was effective with the team when they were on the court.
Uh, he HAS been a situational player. The "situation" lately has been that Scola was getting absolutely eaten alive on defense. I love Scola, but I really do not remember his post D being this bad...
