If Chuck does land in Boston, I really hope he finally starts to get the true recognition he deserves and gets on an All-NBA Defensive team.
If Chuck goes to Boston, I will hate him forever. jk.. but he deserves a ring. And as long as he has an off night when playing against the good guys.

Boston knows its big men, and Hayes could be a very good pf in the league. In boston, I think he can play center effectively, as KG does a great job at rebounding and paint defense, the two things Hayes sucks at.
Yeah, 8.1 rebounds in 28 minutes is awful. Oh, and covering Kevin Martin, Luis Scola and Chase Budinger's collective asses is not impressive at all. Rocket fans should thank their lucky stars every single night that they didn't see the Rockets without Chuck Hayes patrolling the paint last year. "Chuck Hayes sucks at rebounding and paint defense" Somebody blow my brains out. Everyone here is now dumber for having read your post.
Hayes doesn't have the length to defend the paint very well. If Hayes was such a good defender why did the Rockets hold layup drills to every opponent last season? A 6'6 frame doesn't cover a lot of surface area on the court.
You can't have a layup with a chuckwagon in the paint. If the chuckwagon is pulled out of the paintby his man, then you can have a layup. That's due to the overall lack of height on the Rockets. Chuck's one of the best defenders in the league though. Ask KG if you don't beleive me.
You get layups whenever there isnt a defender covering ground in the paint. While I agree that Chuck doesn't cover ground with long arms, his exceptional footwork, help defense, and lower body strength in the paint cover about as much ground as you could possibly hope for. The main problem isnt Chuck, its Scola(who can't guard a barstool), Bud(although much improved), KMart, etc. giving up so much ground and letting their man blow by them so much that there is only so much one post player can make up for in help defense. Replacing Chuck with a 7footer with length adds the element of shot blocking, intimidation, & whatever.... looks coming off the bus, but much of the problem last year was with Adelman's defensive schemes, accountablility to the perimeter players, and Scola. I love Scola as much as anyone here, but his defense last season made Chuck take on way more than one player could handle. So with that being said, I disagree that Chuck cannot guard the paint. Its just that the other guys need to do their part on defense. 90% of the 7 foot shot blockers in the NBA, with the exception of maybe 3 or 4 Centers(Howard, Bynum, etc.) in this league who can do what Chuck did and add shot blocking to the equation, wouldn't have had any more success with the surrounding cast and defensive coaching on the Rockets last year.
http://www.82games.com/1011/10HOU16.HTM#onoff See here. Rockets defense was average (108.4 per 100 possessions) with Chuck on floor, terrible (111.9) without him. Chuck very important. Much better than replacement (often j hill). Rockets also much on offense with Chuck. Likely a function of playing with the starters but Chuck was sweet paaser and good on cuts to basket too.
Chuck is like the exact opposite of Serge Ibaka. Ibaka is one of the best help defenders in the NBA and is a shot-blocking machine in the paint. His specific weakness has been guarding post players. Chuck is one of the best post defenders in the NBA, but he is not a good help defender. The only way he helps others in the paint is by drawing charges.
We need to offer Chuck some sort of lifetime contract, tell him that if he will accept a contract with us for a little below market value, we will hire him on our coaching staff when he retires. Then give him max years (I guess that's 5) at below market value. He's too valuable and too quality to lose.
