Google nba hot spots, and look at Chuck's FG% around the basket. It's 59.8% (leads the team). Scola's is 54.4%. Yao's is 59.2%. It's funny how perception and reality can be so different.
Well, in Rick Adelman's offense, Chuck should get more shoots if he's an effective cutter. It's strange that Chuck's FGA has dropped 1+ per game. Even if Chuck only gives 1 more shot every 5 games, that still will give the Rockets a 2 points edge in 15 games. I also wonder how Jeff Foster and Ben Wallace's shooting % if they play with T-Mac & Yao. Both should be better than 55 % if they play with T-Mac and Yao. And I also doubt Chuck Hayes will shoot 55% if he plays in other teams.
Not really. Adelman's offense uses perimeter players more as cutters, while the bigs play more on the high post. Chuck is used more as a passer away from the basket, and that's resulted in less offensive rebounds and shot attempts. Wallace is at 33% this year, and he's shot under 50% in 5 of the previous 6 seasons. I wouldn't bet on that.
Perception? It's how funny how u use numbers. Yao has men crawled all over his back in most shot attempts while Chuck is mostly in no men land. Scola blows some wide open layups too but his FGAs near the baskets also contain post-moves that have post-defenders on his back. Have Chuck ever attempted a post move to back down a defender to score in the paint? Nada.
Actually, yes he has. And every shot Chuck has attempted isn't a "wide open layup" either. Yao has missed his share of gimmes around the basket too (not to mention the other so called "skilled" players like Scola and Wells). It happens.
It's because Adelman rather use him as a post/passer in offense to cover Chuck's weaknesses. Adel Well, than u r comparing a guy on his declining career to a young guy. A young Ben Wallace wouldnt shoot 60+% playing with T-Mac and Yao? U must be kidding me. A young Ben Wallace would be an excellent PF for Yao.
So you'd rather have Yao being the passer in the high post than Chuck? I see your basketball smarts are off the charts. Of course, because bizarro-world-Ben-Wallace actually has better offensive skills than Chuck Hayes.
Where does Shane Battier rank for that stat among SF? Also, where does Shane Battier rank for threes + charges taken + blocks + steals? I'd be thankful if you happen to have that data.
Everyone makes out how Chuck is an offensive liability but he converts in the high-50%s of his shots. Just because he can't create his own shot or post his own man up reliably doesn't mean he's an absolute zero.
Your changing your argument. Lol, again you keep changing your argument. You just said that Wallace would hit over 60% he was here, and now it's a young Ben Wallace. Wallace has always been a pathetic offensive player that opposing defenses ignore. At his youngest and most athletic, he still didn't shoot any better than Chuck has the last two seasons. I don't know what you're saying here.
He is 6th in blocks/game among small forwards and 20th in steals/game among small forwards. He is 8th in threes/game among small forwards. I couldn't find current stats, but he was in the top 10 in charges per game two seasons ago. Pretty good stats - and very tangible.
What argument did I change? JVG didnt use Hayes as a post. Adelman uses Hayes as a post. But he still can cut to the basket after passing. u can keep on arguing about that. I am not going to sit on it. Which team had Ben Wallace played that had 2 players that constantly demand double team? I couldnt recall there was some instance that Chuck backed down any defender in the post to make a shot. Show me a video clip to prove it.
Watching LP, I am often amused by the opposing team's announcers. Many mention at the start of the game that Chuck is undersized or would come off the bench for most teams, then the rest of the game they repeatedly mention in amazement how Chuck is shutting down one of their top performers. 1 Star thread.
You changed your argument from "Chuck isn't cutting like he's supposed to" to "Chuck is kept in the high post to cover his weakness as a post player". The fact is backdoor cuts that characterize Adelman's offense are done almost exclusively by perimeter players. The PFs are used more in the high post, away from the basket. That's how is offense works, and it's why Chuck isn't getting as many field goal attempts by hanging around the basket. Clear? None. What do you think that proves? There isn't a shred of evidence that a player's FG% can be expected to go from the 30-40% range to 60+% by adding a player who "demands a double team" (in case you didn't realize it, Chuck shoots well over 50% even when one of the Yao or McGrady isn't on the court, and he probably has shot over 50% when neither are on the court as well). Again, here's their shot charts: You think Ben Wallace would shoot 60+% with us when he can't even hit 40% on shots around the basket? Get serious. Yao and McGrady are good ... not that good. Oh, and Chuck was shooting well over 50% his rookie year as well, even when most of his minutes came without Yao and McGrady. It doesn't happen often, but I know at least a couple times he has scored off a back down move. Example, against Golden State (12/31) [video]. That's a left handed jump hook in the lane over a guy much bigger than him. Not bad for a scrub:
I like your ideas but this is thread is mostly about ignoring Hayes' contribution. See the original thread, it's good for your reading comprehension.
Against better pF's in the League, Chuck is at a disadvantage. So in the playoffs he is really exposed as compared to the regular season. A 7 game series really exposes your flaws and chucks lack of offense
