CHUCK HAYES by a mile. He's shut down KG, Chris Bosh, Lamarcus Alridge, Al Jefferson, Pau Gasol, and Andrew Bynum.
Haha are you kidding... Why would this question even come up? Who would want kwame, he's a bum... CHUCKWAGON!!!! All the way
People just don't understand athletics and the human body, when they say things about how they don't understand how a small player, like Chuck Hayes or Ben Wallace can guard centers or players much taller than them. People were so shock to see how Bynum and Gasol couldn't post him up. Well naturally, most people who have played any game were power is used, know that height and overall weight doesn't necessarily give you an advantage on the block, just ask any football coach that. You can have 278 player (who is only about 6'2) going against a 324 player (at 6,7), and 278 player can be far and away stronger. If the smaller player has stronger leg muscles, and sometimes more upper body strength (but in reality it is not as important as strong legs). I don't care how much taller the other player is or outweighs you by, if you're not stronger than him or about evenly matched in strength. More times than not, you aren't going to push him over or knocking the player down easy. Players, like Gasol, Bosh, and even KG can't take that kind of punishment for a whole game or series, that's why they often rely on jump shooting or beating people off the dribble. But, when does things don't go their way, you'll find it is very easy to take them out of the game. Especially going up against an equally as skilled, yet more powerful center or forward (see Yao Ming, Tim Duncan, or Shaq). Also, remember Hayes is built, like an NFL player, a large linebacker or a small lineman (DE), gigantic thighs and calf muscles with good upper body strength. Most NBA players are very slender and nimble, more built for track & field type events that involve explosive running and jumping. In fact, I think Hayes is bigger in overall size (definitely height) than Elvis Dumervil and Dwight Freeney. Almost a foot taller than Elvis. Though, not as fast as those guys, he probably wouldn't be the slowest guy or DE on the field, either. Personally, I think a player, like him might actually make a better NFL player than an NBA player. Since, he has the conditioning for it and the body type. Can't say the same things about Kwame Brown, he'd get pushed around by Wes Welker or Steve Smith, after missing his gap and being confused about the play.
Heck no they are NOT similar! Like some of the other guys have mentioned.. chuck's IQ is way better. He is quicker on his feet, and obviously a better defender. Kwame is a female in a ball players body.
Chuck hayes defensivley is ranked top 5 in effiency. Even without his man having the ball.. he is always in the right spots to prevent a backdoor cut, or a open lane to the basket. He also is a low turnover guy, which gives the team a higher effiency on ever possesion. He is EFFICENT. he is tough, and he is smart. That's why Van Gundy started him, and that's why adelman... an offensive-minded coach is gonna go with him as starting Center. Anyone who knows basketball should be offended by this comparison. Straight up offended chronz !
Hayes has the higher bbiq and better hands and kwame has the size. Both are very limited in what they can do but kwames best has been better than hayes best. Kwame is a very good post defender. His hands are terrible though.
Proof? Like what games do you recall? Also Im pretty sure Hayes never had the play as long as Kwame has MPG wise. Nor has he ever played alongside a dominant interior defender to compliment his strengths and mitigate his weaknesses, like Yao did for Hayes, Sheed was good but unmotivated.
Hayes has some straight up disgusting defensive stats but how much of that is the consequence of Yao and being on an overall great defensive team? Of which he definitely contributes on an elite level, but are you so certain Kwame couldnt achieve similar results? The best way I know of dissecting the matter is by comparing the change his teammates undergo when joining the same team/system. Guys like Juwan Howard who came from the worst defensive team in the league to a top team offers a great precedence. And by evaluating the change in team performance from one year to the next with the addition of said player. I know for a fact that when Kwame left Washington and joined LA, the former suffered, the latter improved. Adelman is not any one dimensional coach, he knows how to make use of Hayes ability. His defensive philosophies have long been underrated.
Kwame sucks a #1 pick but he doesn't suck as a player. I honestly don't know who I'd rather have. I'm leaning towards Chuck but only because I've seen his entire NBA career.
Kwame Brown Stats Kwame has a career MPG of 22.9 which most people would think to be a rather leisurely pace and not overly tiring. His highest MPG of 30.3 was in the 2003 - 2004 season with Washington. Chuck Hayes Stats The career MPG for Chuck Hayes is 17.5. Is the difference of 5.4 MPG supposed to represent something significant in this comparison - analysis that you are doing between the two players? Teams that Kwame has played for during his career. 01-02 WAS 02-03 WAS 03-04 WAS 04-05 WAS 05-06 LAL 06-07 LAL 07-08 LAL 07-08 MEM 08-09 DET He played for both Memphis and the Lakers during the 2007 - 2008 season, so the 2008 - 2009 season would be illustrative of a season without a Kwame influence for those two teams and show the positive impact that Kwame had for the Detroit Pistons. Kwame is a good defender with size, basically what we want Dorsey to be. He's only an average rebounder though, because he has really small hands (Laker fans called him Kwame "stone hand" Brown, it's really due to his small hands). Hayes is an intellectual defender who uses his size to his full potential. I'd say overall they're the same: Hayes does more with less, but Kwame's height and length sort of balances it out. However Hayes is making 2 mill a year, while Kwame's paid twice that. Hayes all the way.
