Btw, Howard doesn't guard Blake or Aldridge, he guards Jordan and Duncan. Ariza, Smith and Jones, guarded Griffin in the playoffs, not Howard.
It would've been nice to have him back, but I'd rather get Harrell signed to a long-term deal since he'll be more likely to get playing time.
It will be come playoff time. Hayes is the only guy you can trust to defend LMA or Blake on this team. Hayes was the reason I wasn't too bummed about losing Smith. But now....we have no defense at the 4.
I think this means we are definitely looking to sign Montrezl to something more than the minimum, which I've leaned toward for awhile now. There's too much uncertainty at power forward, and if you believe Harrell is a 1st round talent, then you want him locked up for multiple years. I've heard multiple people say "you don't trade flexibility for a 2nd round pick"...that's not the right way to look at it IMO. What if the Rockets put a similar value on Montrezl as they did Bobby Portis (#22 pick in the draft)? Would you trade one year of flexibility for Bobby Portis on a cheap 3-4 year deal? My question is "what changed"? By the time Hayes agreed to the partial guarantee, we already knew that we could be facing the hard cap by signing Harrell using the MLE. We also knew that we needed to resolve Harrell's situation by September 5th, when we have to tender the minimum offer to retain his draft rights. In my mind, there's 3-4 potential explanations: 1) We told Hayes that we were only taking one of him or Terry, and Terry was the priority. When it looked like Terry was going to sign with New Orleans, we moved forward with a verbal agreement on a partially guaranteed contract, pending Terry's ultimate decision. When Terry did an about face, Chuck was the one forced out. 2) The Rockets were waiting to hear back from Montrezl on whether he would take a 2 year minimum offer. He recently informed us that he would sign the 1 year tender offer, which forced us to reevaluate our priorities. 3) There is a trade coming, where we need either the extra roster spot or cap flexibility. 4) We have a potential buyout target in mind. My guess is Carl Landry.
Weird. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">watch the cards that your dealt even the dealer has a agenda..</p>— Montrezl Harrell (@MONSTATREZZ) <a href="https://twitter.com/MONSTATREZZ/status/636044953727201280">August 25, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Lol, I've noticed that most of his tweets are very weird and vague. I'm never sure what he's talking about.
haha right? it's like bruh you ok? contract negotiations going good? you wiggin out?! always look before you leap. People, man....smh can't trust nobody #TweetLikeMontrezl
did you see any of harrell in summer league? he reminds me of a more offensively talented faried. He is worth signing.
The same players who always were.....I don't get why people thought that Chuck Hayes was going to get playing time.
Harrell and Hayes talking **** to us. A big circus and a different agenda. When will you question management?
Not true in the least, Hayes was never going to get playing time unless there were multiple injuries. He's barely an NBA player still....if he even still is.
Huh? The most probable cause for this is that they're concerned about hard cap issues. That's not within Les' spending control at all.
