I don't think he is unappreciated, to say the least, by the coach who would not have put him in that position defending Pierce if he does not believe in Chuck as our best defender.

They have a team option for him at $2.3 million which is probably too much for what he will command on the open market.

They might excercise it though depending upon the rest of the offseason, as he will be an expiring, and Morey needs assets that have different values in case he is looking to make a move mid-season.

    Gonna be interesting to see.

We all knew Chuck isn't a full time player. Props to him for holding up this year manning the 5 in place of freakin Yao Ming.

He's devastatingly effective in short minutes. He can completely lock down any 3s, 4s and 5s for moderate stretches and is a plus rebounder and passer. The hustle and heart and leadership are also paramount. I mean the players on this team named HIM (the chuckwagon) captain.

I maintain this: hayes, scola, battier are championship players. We need to hold on to them through all this offseason hoopla. With the addition of Kevin Martin, AB rising to near allstar status, ariza in his natural effective role, Scola in the prime of his career, Yao Ming coming back for shortened but sorely missed minutes of domination and the emergence of solid bench players in budinger and hill, we're poised to the make a finals run and we NEED Hayes and company to make it all the way.

You know how they say you can't teach height.... or you can't teach speed...

    YOU CAN'T TEACH HEART!
And Chuck Hayes is the man, only 6'5" center to start in the league ever, he's playing hurt, he knows his limitations, he never ever gripes or complains or causes disfunction or drama, he's a true leader and the Rockets would be r****ded to let him go under ANY circumstance, even if he's #12 on the bench as a defensive specialist.

You can't stop the ChuckWagon, you can only hope to contain him.

He's got the heart of a champion, and NEVER underestimate that!!!!!!!!!!!

Chuck Hayes is our best defender, hands down. Yes, he's better than Battier. The only guy who can maybe compete with him as the team's best defender is Jeffries.

looks like chuck was suppose to be on paul all along, you can see him waving bud off and showing him he should be on the inbounder...someone on the bench, looks like adelman, also points bud to the inbounder, but it was too late to make the switch..

And i love chuck's play, but in this particular play it looks like PP's spin was slower than usual, looking at it closesly you can see why, he stepped on chuck's shoe as he spun back and that threw off his rythm....either way great D by chuck

This year? As a starter or off the bench, he's been playing like this for a few years now.

The team freakin' appreciates him!!! He is still our starting center even with the arrival of Hill. Let him end the season as our starting center after the heroic effort he has shown us from the beginning of this season.

In the end, I think it will be Les Alexander's decision whether or not to keep him on the line-up even if it means paying him double as we are over the luxury. It is not Chuck's fault. It is Jeffries' contract that is gonna kill us.

I still say bite the bullet and keep both Shane and Chuck. After keeping us competitive these past 2-3 years, we will let them go just when we have a chance to contend?? Don't break my heart

i love the look on pierce's face afterwards. sorta like, "what just happened there?"

anyways, someone said pierce stepped on chuck's foot. i'm sure some of chuck's leverage (and strong momma's legs) contributed too.

RA called that all along. Chuck was positioned midway so he could pick up PP if he comes out or slide to the post if PP was posting CBud. PP didn't know how to throw Chuck off, visibly rattled he had to look for instructions from the bench instead of attacking right away

I think most,if not everyone appreciates hayes for what he is. He's a situational player on a championship team. You don't see him criticized much because he plays to his salary and talents. He wasnt involved in a trade using a lotto pick, so i don't see how people can be critical of him.

I think that we should offer him the vet minimum. He knows and the Rockets organization know that he is really not gonna get too many offers from other teams.

If the rumors are true, I think that the only team that may offer him a contract are the Nets. Rumors are going around the NBA vineyards that the Nets are trying to get a new coach and are interested in JVG. If he does indeed get hired, I might get worried that since he was the one who basically found Hayes, he might be inclined to offer him a deal.

I was drunk as hell and watching the game with no volume at Dave and Busters, but I was screaming for Adelman to put Hayes on Pierce at the end of regulation.
