chuck hayes is sooooooo good in defense that he is not even trying to defend the other players chuck hayes is soooooooo good in defense that the other player steal, block and rebound his own shot and give to him the ball but honestly he the man good defender ala battier p.d. Thank Youuuuuu JVG
I was just on another forum and some jackass was trying to say that Chuck Hayes is a poor man's Kwame Brown
Well, there is no denying that Chuck is a great defender, but he is also an offense liability. In NBA which represents the highest level of baskbetball, you cannot solely rely on one specialty of earn respectful minutes. Chuck is a solid role player now and he has earned his spot in this squad. I appreciate his presence, but he will never be a star.
Maybe not a star in the NBA's eyes, but is in Houston. No matter what he lacks in size or ability, he makes up with tenacity and scrappiness on the defensive end. Him being the underdog makes Houston appreciate that he comes to play whenever he is called. If that doesn't make him a star that he out hustlers guys that have 7'in on him in height, then I don't know what is.
Best way to think of Chuck is a solid, dense tree trunk that is permanently either attached to you or stuck in the post.
I think he's the perfect 11th or 12th man as he's a nice change of pace player that can positively impact the game in a short span of time, but when you're asking him to play extended minutes it's not an ideal situation. It simply becomes too hard to play 4 on 5 on offense and even his D becomes exploitable after a while due to his short stature and lack of shotblocking. I think his offense could be passable though...he was noticeably better on offense playing alongside T-Mac who was a talented enough playmaker to get him scoring opportunities. And he is a nice passer out of the high post. You have to at least try to utilize him.
It's not a coincidence that the Rockets' two worst defensive outings in the pre-season were when Chuck Hayes sat on the bench a majority of the time. It's not a coincidence that Chris Bosh suddenly couldn't score when Chuck Hayes came into the game. It's not a coincidence that our pick-and-roll defense is suddenly a lot better when Chuck Hayes is on the floor.
Chuck Hayes defense is spectacular. NOBODY else in the entire league has that combination of defensive speed and strength in the post. He can strip the ball from you, or he can just act as a tree stump and prevent anyone from even coming close to backing down him. Chuck Hayes is the most underrated defender on the planet.
