Dude, Artest was on him and Battier switched over. Your defensive logic makes sense during the game, but not in crunch time. I DVR'ed it and Battier didn't force him to the rim. A 3 point shot hurts you, but it's also a lot more difficult shot. Roy wants to penetrate, that is his game. He could have dropped it off to Aldridge for the easy 2.
Not that it matters, but Game 1 was where he became a daddy the night before... and game 5 was where he drew the charge against Derek Fisher. but boy done good cold off the bench. Fantastic help.
He was great in that Game 1 also, as I remember it. His offensive rebounding kept us in the game in that first half.
you don't really hear anyone say it "is an Awesome charge" except to Chuckwagon. He is truly exceptional. I wonder how many players get that compliment.
Sometime during the second half, the TV showed Chuck sitting on the bench and he was staring out into space but absolutely intense. He looked like he was trying to keep himself mentally prepared and focused in the off chance he was called to get in the game. I don't know, I was really impressed to see that from a guy who may or may not get playing time.
Didn't matter if he hit him on the hand or not,Chuck had taken the charge outside the circle,Roy got called for the offensive foul. It was a very clean charge.
Just watched the replay a few times, and that was honestly one of the most amazing defensive plays I've ever seen. His instincts and anticipation on the defensive end is unparalleled. He was keeping his eye on both Roy and Aldridge, and I swear it must have been the millisecond Roy makes his move that Hayes basically teleported to the other side of the paint, outside of the circle, just waiting for Roy to crash into him.
This picture shows that nice charge taken by Chuck Hayes plus a nice block by Battier too. There is more pics like this on yahoo.
Does anyone remember the video a couple of years ago when Hayes was a rookie? It was a collection of clips from SEC coaches press conference all complimenting Chuck Hayes? The praise that they gave him was unbelievable and I remember thinking this guy must really be a smart BBALL player. You could see the admiration in their faces. These were guys that have coached some of the greatest college basketball players around and they spoke of an opponent's player like he was their son. I would love to see that video again. Hayesfan, I'm looking in your direction.

Hell yeah I was thinking that when I was standing up along with everybody else in the building. I've never been so proud of young Chuck-Wagon.
Hardly. Battier blocked the shot anyway. But that's not to take anything away from Chuck. He doesn't get many minutes, but when he's in, he does a wonderful job. He earns every dollar he's given, that's for damn sure.
