For one thing, you don't compare how players on teams like UT and A&M did against teams like Rice and SMU to prove that one is better than the other. Exhibit A: McNeal @ previously unranked Clemson (They do have one of the best defenses in the country. Oh wait, no they don't. They do have one of the best defenses in the ACC. Oh wait, no they don't.) 8-16, 110 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT 9 rushes, 100 yds. Exhibit B: Young @ # 4Ohio State (They do have one of the best defenses in the country) 18-29, 270 yards, 2 TD, 2 INT 20 rushes, 76 yards. I'm not arguing that Young is better than McNeal, but it's definitely a close race and Young is a much better passer than you'd like to believe.
Every year the longhorns try to sell us on their players, this is nothing new, it is pointless and stupid though. This speaks nothing towards Vince's ability or lack thereof to QB in the league
From the article Shady posted, it looks like the line just plain sucks. Perhaps the zone scheme was implemented because they can't block anyone one-on-one. It's pathetic that Carr has to do 3 step drops all day. Carr isn't blameless either. He ran around randomly way too much (Pittsburgh's Joey Porter said he ran around sometimes for no reason). And he just can't create anything. Why is he a #1 pick if he needs maximum protection to get anything done? We could have just getten Trent Dilfer for that.
He just said at the press conference that he didn't call the plays as the OC in Carolina. In his three years as OC in Buffalo, he had a top ten offense each year.
I believe he is shell shocked, many times he takes off when there is no need, he just has no confidence in standing tall in the pocket and I do not blame him, he has been pounded into submission, it will take years for him to recover if he can at all. To me Carr could have been a pretty good QB in the league but now, who knows.
It's time that Gary Kubiak gets a head coaching job in the NFL. Fire Capers, dump Casserly, and bring aboard Kubiak and anyone he wants to bring with him. This team is no better than it was in its first year. Whoever thought hiring Capers to begin with was a good idea, well, nuh uh. And heck, this team only HAS two good players - Dunta and AJ.. and I guarantee you right about now, both of those guys are just counting down the agonizing painfully slow days until they can become free agents, because there is no WAY they want to be staying here one second longer than they absolutely have to. This team is going to have to start over from zero. But at least they have that fancy new stadium. Woo.
Thank God for the Franchise tag. You can tell from AJ's comments that he doesn't like the way this offense is run, and would leave at the first opportunity he gets unless we get better.
Wasn't his boss in Carolina Dom Capers? Let me see if I have this straight... Pendry gets fired (by Capers) for having an ineffective offense, then goes on to have an effective one elsewhere. Palmer has an effective offense elsewhere, then goes on to have an ineffective one and gets fired (by Capers). There seems to be a common denominator here. I can't say I know these facts myself, but just piecing together what I read here. Hiring Kubiak as a head coach sounds like a fine idea. I've heard he's been considered before and he's done well under Shanahan in Denver.
Hell, we have so many problems...We need a QB, an LT, D-Line, etc... I see Capers gone after this season, so we'll need a coach too...The offense has been run poorly all this time...We just don't have the right personnel and we never will if Casserly keeps drafting QB (ie. Ragone, BJ,etc.)...All we can hope for is a Top 3 pick because I can't see this improving...
capers had nothing to do with palmer's two-year tenure in cleveland when he oversaw the ruining of tim couch.
these delusional statements from utexas fans here are hilarious starting for over half the nfl? hahaha he is a great college qb, but history is littered with great college QBs that don't even get drafted
Yeah, who knows what's going on in Carr's head now? I'm sure a hall of fame QB in his prime, like Montana or Elway, wouldn't panic and would be able to make something out of nothing, but that's too much to ask of Carr. I don't blame him for having happy feet.
I somehow got the impression that Kubiak has avoided head coaching job opportunities, preferring to work under Shanahan. I do admit that its the cyclical nature of sports that after a few years of conservative offensive approach that it is attractive to switch to a offensive-minded coach. A few other candidates: Norm Chow, June Jones, Pete Carroll, and Charlie Weiss...
some dude named applewhite comes to mind... on topic - after the buffalo game i became a san antonio saints fan for a year. i predicted before the first preseason game that this would be the worst year in the brief life of the Texans. i have no reason to believe otherwise with palmer unemployed. take a look at their schedule... enjoy.
