Yeah, it's a real fair comparison to show what Franchione has done at small schools like TCU compared to Mack at UNC and Texas.

    *yawn*

Every new head coach at a major institution has an extremely impressive resume. Most still never work out. Sometimes it's because they got lucky previously, other times it's because their style doesn't translate or that their gifts fitted the other place b etter, other times people figure them out...

...the point is, that even at elite schools, most new coaches don't work out. Most schools go through a dud or two before finding a new coach.

It's utterly possible that Franchione will succeed at TAMU. So far, he's done very well. But it's just as likely that he'll fail. Before you make an argument... don't bother. I completely agree that Fran's resume is fantastic. I also don't see anything about his coaching that might cause him to fail. But so were the resumes of all the other big name coaches that never worked out.

I hope Franchione does well, because I'd like to see TAMU regain some status. Besides generally routing for Texas teams, I like to have something on the line on T+1.

But this "Fran is coming! We're saved!" stuff is annoying... and it's not grounded in realistic expectations.

To Brown's credit, Tulane was an independent so subtract 3 years off his 19 year head coaching resume.

    1 at Appalachian State
    10 at North Carolina
    5 at Texas

Mack was at Tulane as well. Although, they may have been independent.

Good move by the Gaggies ;). However, my fellow longhorn fans-Mack is a fine coach, any thought of replacing him needs to be squashed immediately. We just got our first back to back 10 win seasons in 30 years. Patience, is necessary, as it often takes a coach a long time to win a NC: see Bobby Bowden. Mack's main flaw is too much loyalty to his assistants, but tell you what I love the way he handles the media and is a class act. I am proud he is representing my school. I do want him to fire GD like a lot of people, or demote him, but that is really a very minor flaw in general.

Also, there is life after football believe it or not: Would I like a NC soon, heck yes, but will I not live my life if we fall short for awhile: no. At least we are in the running every year, and not too many teams can say that.

Furthermore, I saw strides made in our program this year, you can say well you lost again to Stoops and got upset by Leach, but we went on the road at beat Kansas State-Major with Ricky couldn't do that, and beat Nebraska in Lincoln for the 2nd time in a row, even if Nebraska is down, considering they are 73-2(both losses to UT under Mack) at home in their last 75 games I'd say it's quite an accomplisment. The reason Mack doesnt have many conference titles is he was at UNC while FSU was flat out dominant in the 90's. The talent wasn't comparable.

You guys calling for his head: find me convincingly a better coach for this school, because I don't think there is one that we could get. Mike Bellotti does not qualify btw.

Embrace Mack, don't tear him down at every opportunity, because we at the great University of Texas at Austin are very lucky to have him coaching our football team and representing our school.

Overall, good move Aggies, not that I want the big 12 south to get any worse(as it already was the premier conference in America), and I wish you guys well. I just wish some Longhorn fans would appreciate our coach the same way, and realize winning a national championship is not easy as all, especially with our schedule every year considering the current system.

    And stay Roy stay! :D

Sorry, refman if I derail your thread, I applaud this move, even if it makes the big 12 south complete hell, like it may.

I think you totally missed the point.

UNC played in the ACC, with annual powerhouse Florida State. Franchione won his conference titles coaching at TCU and Tulane in below average conferences; it's not anywhere close to a reasonable comparison to someone coaching against Florida State and Oklahoma in the ACC and Big 12.

It's not to take away from what Franchione has done-- 9 championships in any conference is a good accomplishment. But most would agree that success in Conference USA isn't comparable to success in the ACC (when FSU was great) or the Big 12.

What about success in the SEC. Wouldn't Bama be going to the SEC title game if they weren't on probabtion (I could be wrong). Anyway that wasn't my point.

DVauthrin, I think I was making some of those exact same arguments in favor of Slocumn about 10-11 years ago. I'm not saying it'll turn out the same way, just pointing out how cyclical CF can be.

If what I'm reading on owlzone.com is true, Franchione has a losing record versus Rice. Great hire Ags. WHOOP

I'm sure that happened when the charges didn't seem as bad. Weren't there a lot more violations uncovered after Franchione got there?

He also jilted Tomlinson at the Heisman ceremony. He sat with the Bama representative instead.

Of course, I actually like Fran. I saw him give it to Saban.

Yes. Apparently the administration didn't tell Coach Fran everything that went on because the NCAA hadn't discovered it and the investigation had ended. Now the NCAA caught wind of this stuff and are reopening the investigation.

    I'd want to leave too.

YES! Franchione is the new head coach at Texas A&M! I hope he whoops everyone and make the Aggies a top 10 program. Did I tell you I was an Aggie fan? Beat the hell out of T.U. Whoop!
