This is all just lip-service. He's saying all the right things to make his wife happy, but no one willingly moves to the city where their in-laws live.

i'd do a sign and trade with him. maybe resign wesley to a 1 year deal and trade him, but i just dont want to give up the mle cause i'm looking forward to V-span

VSpan is an unknown commodity - could be good but may not be. MJ is a sure thing. I'll take the sure thing every time. Besides, sounds like VSpan wants to play at least another year in Europe. More seasoning is fine by me. Ginobili didn't come here until he was 25.

Mike James would be a steal if we get him at the MLE

With so many options still out there (at this point), I'm not sure if I'm ready to throw the full MLE at James, especially for 4 or 5 years. I really don't know who I prefer at this point...but there will be a few guys out there this summer. Maggette and Wells I know for sure...Maggette may seem out of reach, but look what happened last summer with Shareef and Stromile.

I do think James is probably the best shooter on the market, which is a definite plus. I don't think he'd get the starting PG spot over Rafer though...he could take Wesley's spot, but most all of us agree we need more size at the 2-guard.

The only way we can give him more than the MLE is a sign and trade with Juwan . But, once again, we'll have to see what our options are. James is definitely an intriguing possibility. He could just be saying this though to get some team to offer him more than the MLE...if he gets us to offer the full MLE other teams will know they have to offer him more through a sign and trade.

    Such as....?

Maggette is an outside possibility via trade and we can't afford Wells. Who else is there that would be a considerable upgrade, that we can afford and can shoot better than 40% from 3-pt range and play with even half of the fire and intensity James does?

None. We have the MLE and the veterans minimum to offer. That's it. The Rockets basically can't get under the cap again until Yao and McGrady's contracts are expired.

Agreed. Maybe James want two things both done. To be back in Houston while getting above MLE level money. So he sends signals to Houston and Raptors hoping them work out a sign and trade for him.

We only have the MLE. We don't have the LLE this year. Free agents can be obtained in a sign and trade but we don't have the assets to get very good ones.

We need a 3rd scorer to go with T-Mac & Yao. James would seem to fit that bill. However, we had James last year & it didn't get us past Dallas. That is my only concern.

Maybe with Alston at point, James could just concentrate on spot up shooting. I'd be willing to give it a shot for the MLE or a S&T without giving up our 1st round pick.

How much is James earning now, I mean his like, salary? / ihad the impression that this guy was after MONEY. Great if he comes, but what if he's asking for 800 mil+(like Wells?)

If we can sign him, still bring VSpan over, and draft a power forward or shooting guard, I'm all for it. We'll be looking good if so.

If we can get him, I say get him.

But I doubt his ego would let him come off the bench after what he did in Toronto.

He is the type of bench player that could spark the 2nd team ala Bobby Jackson in Sacramento a couple of years back. Which is what this team desperatly needs

We can even use both James and Alston as Rudy used Smith and Cassell during our first couple of championships...

Both got significant minutes and contributed to the team effort.

I think it can work but ego's have to be erased for this to work.

Nah, James is 6-2. We can't afford to have two undersized guards in our backcourt. They'd have to go in turns, depending on their shooting streak... And this guy isn't coming with a plain MLE in his way. Again I ask, how much is he earning now? Take that, add another mil, and that's pretty much the lowest we'd have to give him. Dude, you don't pay a guy with pretty much the same stats as Bibby 5.3 mil and say, that's it. It doesn't work that way. Boy, how do I miss that LLE...

James has a player option. He can pick his option and make $3,720,000 otherwise head into free agency.
