I think the Rockets should just go over the cap.

Not too far over, just about 7-9 million over.

That way if a S&T doesn't happen, we can offer James the MLE and pick up another player (Terry? Bonzi?) with 7-9 million.

Trade our 2nd rounder and filler for Childress.

Pick up Roy with the 8th.

    Check out this possible lineup:

    Rafer/James/Sura
    Terry/Head/Roy
    McGrady/Childress/Bogans
    JHo/Stro
    Yao/Deke

    or

    Rafer/James/Sura
    James/Head/Roy
    McGrady/Bonzi/Bogans
    JHo/Stro
    Yao/Deke

Ok you obviously have no clue about cap space.

First of all, we have none. We are already over the cap space. All we have to offer is the MLE and veteran minimums.

They can't give 7-9 million if they wanted to.

Most teams won't take Howard, but I can see people taking on Swift. The prospect tag has not fallen off of him yet, and he still has that perceived "upside". Many GM's and coaches still think they can get some basketball IQ into him, so they may very well be willing to give Swift a chance, like the Rockets did.

i guess if he went to a different system (NJ Nets) he could be more useful...i just think his value is really low.

Harrington is a FA, so the Hawks would be lucky to get anything back for him via a sign & trade. And the Hawks desperately need a PG, and I think Alston would fit in well with their team - they like to run. And they have too many swingmen right now, and I think Childress is the one they value least.

So, since Harrington will leave anyway, they'd basically be trading Childress for Alston, Swift, and Mutumbo (expiring contract). And since they really need a PG and need a PF (with Harrington leaving), I don't see why they wouldn't be interested.

With Wesley, Baker, and Weatherspoon's contracts off the books, that frees up ~15 million. We're still over the salary cap even though those contracts are over with?

    We won't trade Deke.

If they were to trade him, he'd just retire.

Yao's salary jumped from 5 million to about 12 million, due to the max extension he signed last summer. This is why the rockets are still over the salary cap while a bunch of contracts have come off.

If you trade howard with a filler thats 8 mill in contract for howard plus the filler would have to be close to 1 mill, b/c thats basically as small as you could get. Thats a total of 9 mill. That is something im not willing to pay him now and let alone add in a draft pick.

Maybe we do a james sign & Trade and Bonner for a TE a pick and Juwan?

I think James would be a great scorer off the bench, if he's willing to accept that role. I think being given free reign once T-Mac and Yao are off the floor would be ideal for him, then he can attack the D all the wants.

All this being said, i think Rafer is still a good fit for this team. He can't and shouldn't be asked to be a scorer, but he had to with all of the injuries. There were games where he was dropping 14,11,13 assists and really distributing the ball well. I think that once we have a full squad on the floor, complete with third scorer/perimeter defender, he will shine.

He just REALLY needs to work on his shot.

Hawks already have a $20 million dollar PG on their books.

A $20 million dollar PG who is and should be playing SG. The Hawks are stacked at SF but lack a true PF and PG. I wonder if the Hawks would entertain thei #4 pick for our #8 + Swift + filler. Swift could fill in their need at PF ;) and they could pick up Marcus Williams at #8.

The only 'James' that I want to be back in Houston is James Posey...Mike James would command a huge amount of money...same with Sam Cassell

i think if a player make it known that he wants to goto a certain team, i think its obvious they are willing to cut down their contracts a little bit, for james the best offer he will be offered will probably be a MLE any ways, and in cassell's case since he's been around the league money shouldnt be a factor for him...... should it?

Probably, but ATL would just be acquiring him for cap space, so I doubt they'd care. But then again, I'm sure that Deke is still very popular in ATL and he probably wouldn't mind playing for them again.

Good Lord, that's a damn good idea. They'd probably lose James for nothing anyway so might as well get Swift/#8 for #4. If only Aldridge would slip to 4, we'd give them a good Orlandoing with this deal.

If he plays for another team, it wont be Atlanta. That's a definite. Miami maybe? San Antonio? Dallas wanted him but I doubt they'd need him now.

If Mike James is willing to come back and the Rockets need to get him.. granted with a fully healthy T-MAC and Yao ,, James is a 3rd option,, but
    T-MAC being 100 % is a BIG if..

JAMES has proven what he can do as a main option in Toronto.. If either of our BIG 2 goes down.. for a period of time..

Mike James can pick up the slack .. He put of some serious numbers in Toronto with Chris Bosh still getting his ..

    Vote YES for Mike James...
