if you could sign mike james to the MLE that would open up a lot of possibilities for this team. you could then trade alston and swift for whatever need that the draft doesnt fill. if we could find some way to get aldridge or brandon roy in the draft (even by trading a future first rounder, plus first round pick this year)

you could have a lineup of:

    pg - Mike James
    sg - Cory Maggette
    sf - Tracy McGrady
    pf - Lamarcus Aldridge
    c - Yao Ming

bench - Luther Head, Keith Bogans, Mutumbo, Juwon Howard

i think that would be a good mix of youth and resthome like expeirence. i think by the season after next that starting five would be better then the Pistons.

and hell who knows someone out there could feel sorry for the rockets and we could end up winning the lottery.

does anyone else think that would be a pretty good team?

    hmmm
firstly, i dont think atl would give up harrington for swift.. harrington is worth more than that and im sure the hawks know this as well. also i remember him mentioning he wanted to play for the knicks(he said he saw 'contender potential' LOL) and also, I dont know why they would want alston in the first place

id love to have mike james (WHO??) back on the rockets but i think the only way would be s&t.. it makes sense for everybody.. James is worthy of around 7 mil as our 3rd option but we should offer him a 3 year deal instead of 5.. we can throw in a filler(not sure who exactly to make contract work).. but this is basically mJ getting paid what he should, we are keeping our MLE, and
raptors getting SOME compensation if MJ straight up tells them he's not coming back..

BTW, no offering swift/howard would not work, they already have bosh/charlie

i think James is a good player...he should know that Rocket can only give him a MLE...but he still shows hat he want to come back..why? Because he care about honor.. he think that it is a great chance for hime to come back H-town and play with Yao and T-Mac to win the champion. He is 31 nownd he dont want to end up his carrer

I thought MJ has said some really dumb things this past season, but I was kind of disappointed when we traded him. He has a better shot than anyone we currently have on the team, he can create on his own, and can run the break and finish.

If he is willing to sign for the MLE, I would bring him in. We need scoring and MJ is almost instant offense, it would also give us the option of packaging players like Alston, Swift, maybe Head.

Question: If we sign a player w/ the MLE, does that mean we can't bring Spanoullis over?

Awesome news. Suddenly, I have regained my lost hope that we can find a way to contend next year.

At this point I would welcome him back for the MLE, and I never thought I would say that.

But despite his dubious overtures, I think the chances of MJ re-signing here hover somewhere below 20%

    Wait and see I guess.

Mike James needs to come back to H-Town so he can hang with who? Mike Jones...and star in Mike Jones' music video like T-Mac did in Flossin.

Is this the same guy crying for a big/long contract from Toronto every couple games?

Is this the same guy refuse to pass the ball to Yao/TMac last season?

He is an option but absolutely shouldnt be on the top of CD' offseason list.

MJ is coming back for sure! oh man that would be great! And if we somehow find a way to get rid of Juwan,I dont care what we will get in return just get rid of him and his contract. Then Draft Shelden or Carney ( or Royif he is aviable, but i doubt),and if we draft a PF then we should trade swift + anyone but Yao T-mac MJ for a good sg/sf ,if we draft a sg/sf do to the trade but for a PF.
    1st case lineup
    Yao
    Landlord
    T-Mac
    childress or magette or peterson
    MJ

    2nd case lineup
    Yao
    Harrington
    T-Mac
    Roy or Carney
    MJ

i love mike james, but its hard to bring him back.

    we have

    alston(35) / vspan(13)
    Carney(20)/ head(28)
    Tmac(35)/ carney(13)

thats a pretty good rotation already

I think getting a guy like Ricky Davis,Deng,or Childress would be better personally.

as plenty of others have said, vspan may not even come over this year and secure 10 minutes off the bench. if you think that's a "pretty good rotation" then adding mike james will make it stellar.

If you're the Rockets, you have to do it! The guards are such a point of complaints this season. If we can add James and Carney/Roy our backcourt can hang with the San Antonios and Dallas. Big break for the Rockets.

He deserves the MLE after his performance this season (and hell, last seasons playoffs even), but I'd give him more in a sign and trade if we can have Mo Pete too. This offseason is gonna be huge.

I'm pretty sure most of "us guys" wouldn't think this is anywhere near realistic.

It'd be great if Toronto gets nothing for him. They'll have basically have given us Reafer (for better and worse).

hey what about our LLE? couldn't we sign V-Span with that? and don't we have trade exceptions that might help in a sign and trade? just a thought...

LLE is only once per two years. We used the LLE on DA last year. And our trade exceptions are too small for what Mike James wants.

Completely agree. MJ was super effective for us before he was traded and it's a slam dunk that he will be just as effective if not more so than before. IF he takes MLE money, it's a no brainer. Cassell would be tempting but I think MJ's age would tip the scale in his favor. I think it also changes our draft strategy: we can draft big (Shelden Williams) instead of small (Reddick, Carney) with the 1st round pick, then try to unload Stro for a mid to late 1st rounder and draft a guard or swingman.
