yep, I will not give up our 1st rounder to get him, not even Luther. IF James will accept the MLE, then there is no player better that we could get. I like the idea of James being like Wesley, cept younger. Our backcourt will be more intune with the mavs, the suns, etc.

No think you Mike. He is a good player but doesn't fit the Rockets style. Point Guard hasn't been the problem for the Rockets and the last thing we need is another undersized 2 guard. He will get more than the MLE and Rockets have many other needs.

Definitely bring him in with the MLE. V-Span has hinted at wanting to stay in Greece for another year anyway. If we could dump Stro in a sign and trade, I would be open to that too. Maybe Stro and Luther for a re-signed MJ.

Bring him back! He was a solid scorer and thats what this team needs, scoring. He would be a great third option behind Yao and T-Mac. I don't know why he gets so much hate on this board.

Is it possible to get James n Spanoulis? I really want to see Spanoulis in the Rox more than James because of age. So is it possible to get both?

bring him back anyway possible (outside of yao, tracy and 1st rounder)

james brought a swagger and attitude to this team that was sorely lacked this year. yao and tracy while immense competitors do not show this even though it is within them. we need players like james to show that fire to get our other players up and motivated.

You don't get good players in this league without giving up something. It would be good just to get rid of Stro's contract. The guy is garbage. Can we ever count on him achieving his potential?

As far as Luther is concerned, I just don't see how he fits with the Rockets in the long run. He's an undersized 2 with zero pg skills. If we draft a 2 this year Luther will be relegated to the end of the bench.

MJ is the answer. We need perimeter shooting from the PG position. Luther was great at times and really came on at the end of the year even though his 3-point shooting fell off. I like Luther, but if we have to give him up to get a great fit like James, I do it.

You keep trading players away you will never have a championship team. Team chemistry anyone? Depth anyone? You want to sign NBDL players or something?

We need players to stick with the team for more than a year, not a new team every year. Who in their right mind would trade freaking Luther and Stro (even though he ain't that good) for a Mike?

Before you stick with a team, you have to find the right mix of players. What put the Pistons over the top? A trade for Rasheed Wallace. The Spurs tinker with their lineup every year. So do the Mavs and Suns. It's the nature of the game. Management and JVG have alluded to major changes anyway.

I doubt we have the money to sign him outright. Don't forget he wants to be able to take his family to Bahamas once a year, so he is looking for big $$$. I think he will get $6-$7 mil a year at least and the only we can do it is through s&t. But who do we have as trade bait? Swift, Rafer, or Howard?

Sign and trade Howard/Bowen/2nd round pick for James.

I'm one of MJ's biggest supporters and I think its very commendable and noble that MJ is willing to laugh in the face of all the "He just wants to get paid!" nay-sayers and wants to come back to Houston because he genuinely thinks he can help the team win.

The problem is I don't think this happens without a sign-and-trade because of V-Span. I think CD has made it pretty clear with his off the wall Parker/Kobe comparison that the team is committed to bringing him over for next season and we will likely have to dip into the MLE to accomplish that. While MJ wants to win, the guy is well aware that he just averaged 20/6 for an entire season. I think offering him anything less than the full MLE is insulting.

I've been staring at this post for about five minutes, and I still can't see any logical explanation, for why the Raptors would make this deal, that doesn't involve guns or blackmail.

What about signing James with the full MLE, then trading Alston to the Hawks for Josh Childress? You could even expand that deal into a sign and trade where we give the Hawks Swift and get Al Harrington in return. Maybe throw in Mutumbo's expiring deal to make that work. Then draft Shelden Williams with the 8th pick.

    PG: James/Head
    SG: McGrady/2nd round pick
    SF: Harrington/Childress
    PF: Howard/Hayes
    C: Yao/Williams

Obviously, that lineup has a lot of flexibility. Head can play SG too. McGrady and Childress can swing between SG and SF. Harrington can play PF. Williams can play PF and C. Basically, you have an 8 man rotation of James, Head, McGrady, Harrington, Childress, Howard, Yao, and Williams.

James is a Sam Cassell kind of vet - fearless scorer.
Childress is the athletic swingman we need and he's only 22.
Harrington is only 26 and can take a lot of the scoring and minutes load off of McGrady. He also has more shooting range than any of the big men we have right now.
Williams brings the rebounding and shot blocking that we wanted from Swift. He can be our next Otis Thorpe.

Shelden Williams will be a PF in the pros. He is too short to be a center at this level unlike in college.
