^Someone need to check if this guy is genuinely Coach Adelman's fan boy or a huge fan of Coach Adelman's fan boy. LOL at his profile. Welcome to the board whoever you are, BradMiller.
Back to backs is fine. the minutes don't really need to be increased at this point. We really just need continued chemistry building from the same guys. If Jordan Hill develops for maybe 20 min./game it's perfectly fine also. We just need to be able to maybe relax the constraints, so that the minutes are more of a guideline than a rule down the stretch.
Actually it was the opposite. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/6762638.html Ilgauskas played just five games in the 1998-99 campaign and none the next season. He came back in time to play 24 games in 2000-01 and played 62 games the next season, never having a recurrence of the injury . So it was more than 2 full seasons before he was playing again after the injury.
the paper is not correct. he had a couple injuries on his left foot before 2000-2001 season. in Dec, 2000, he got the left foot injuried again then he did similar surgery like yao and was out for the 2000-2001 season. he returned in Dec, 2001 and mainly was used as a backup in the 2001-2002 season. he was back to the starting lineup in 2002-2003 seaon. in this case, he took a whole year to recover. yao took more than a year.
I believe you will find that you are mixing a couple of different injuries, IIRC when he finally had the surgery it was 11 months later-ish that he came back. DD
It would be wise if they kept the cap right where it's at. The original plan was to review or change his minutes come Jan. It seems to early. I, as the next guy, would love to see an increase in minutes and chemistry, but if he goes down, then the organization would be kicking itself in the head ,and the Yao Ming era could be over (if he reinjured his repaired foot)...just for a couple extra minutes of PT.
i am not against rasing his total playing time but we should be very careful. i think rox can up his play time to 28 min with a limitation of no more than 8 min per qt. according to jonathan, doctor focus on his muscle tiredness. if his muscle is tired, his bones will take more pressure. in this case, i don't suggest he plays back to back game. i know it's tough for rox but he won't miss tons of games coz back to back games. if ask me which one i prefer, raising his play time but no back to back vs 24 min but he can play back to back, i would take first option.
Yao playing both games of back to backs is best for the team, his body should be able to handle it. To even more define his role, the coaching staff should consider playing him at only certain points in the game, because we have all seen what a havoc the inconsistent minutes have caused wrecked on our team chemistry.
if your post is a response to my one, i will say i don't agree with you. how many back to back games do we have? someone calculated in long time ago. it is about 19 back to back (maybe i am wrong) so yao will miss 19 games with my suggestion. missing 19 games a season is not very uncommon for a player. comparing to 63 games he will play with increasing mins, his role should be very well defined.
It is encouraging if you and AggNRox are correct that the 24 games in 00-01 was at the start of the season, and then he had his final reoccurance of this injury at that time, sitting out 58 games that year, and then another 20 the next season, and no major problems since, rather than a consecutive streak of almost 2 and a half seasons out that the article implies. That would certainly be closer to what Yao has sat out. Illgauskas came back to play 62 games in 01-02, starting 23 of them and averaging 21.4 minutes a game, which is less than the 24 minutes Yao has been allotted at this point. Of course Z was not counted on to be the team's franchise player and the Cavs only won 29 games, with Lamond Murray as their leading scorer that year.
That is exactly what happened, but Yao is not counted on to be the franchise player anymore either. DD
Personally, I don't think the Rockets have too much to lose if he gets injured again, out for the season. Odds are if that happens, Yao will simply retire. I see retirement as the 2nd best option behind a full recovery for Yao. It seems that a Yao in limbo isn't going to get it done, we need all of him. We aren't going to ever trade him, and resigning is a gamble. If he retires, we don't lose any face with China, and can finally move on. if that means we suck this year, then we can clearly be in rebuild and act accordingly.
Definitely not counted on, but I think Les harbors the notion that he'll return to the form he displayed just before the injury in LA. Who knows? Damned hard to count on, isn't it, but Les owns the team.
