He's in Jordan to learn Arabic during the season and he comes home to Houston during the summer. He'll probly be gone by October.
I'd dump Vin Baker Somewhere in the Gulf with Moochie Norris tied to his leg to have Van Chancellor on the sideline yellin' about Lil Niko!
Dream couldn't really teach Yao much because of how worlds apart Olajuwon's athleticism is compared to Yao's. Michael Jordan has as little in common with Yao as Olajuwon does.
I would definitely love to see Dream tutoring Yao. I think I wished that about 58 times last year during various parts of the season, and it p's me off that Yao's big butt isn't here to get some Dream. I mean Yao has some moves now, but they are very raw and mainly take advantage of his size. I broke down many of his possessions and his footwork was all wrong, and he holds the ball in the shooting motion before his move even begins. I know I shouldn't complain b/c he is still a really good player, but I think he needs the ultimate center alive to pass a little bit on to him. Yao probably would have some problems picking most of it up due to the fact that he just doesn't have the ability to control his body with the quickness and precision that Dream did, but given his size, it could make a huge difference. He really does need to get away from China for a while to make himself available for the real learning to begin, not to mention a little rest. Damned that China...not only do they not want to trade with us and want to buy all the oil in the world, but they won't give us our Rocket.
Where's Badiane? He's got the agility and the quickness -- let's get him down here to learn the game the way it *should* be played!
I gotta disagree with you guys. Dream has A LOT to teach Yao. Sure Yao can't match Dream's quickness and athleticism, but that isn't what the Dream teaches. The Dream teaches his footwork and basketball IQ and whether you do a baseline spin slowly or quickly, the footwork to maximize your potential is the same. Imagine Yao doing a couple of baby 'shakes'. He'll be unstoppable, even moreso. Even though Yao is slower in doing his moves, because he is taller, the defender has to prepare his action far earlier than if he was defending a smaller guy. With a couple fakes and jab steps, Yao would be...well...a man can dream, can't he?
You definitely can dream a little, isnt that why we're all here? All this positive thinking gets me all excited for October to huury up and get here.
Hakeem had some insane stamina. Most of it's physically related, but anyone who can dominate the regular season during Ramadan must have some good techniques.
Oh man, just mentioning the word hakeem makes me want to pop in my hardwood classics DVD . I even watched the one where he tries to instruct on how to play a post game.
i agree with dream helping okafor, but yao could learn alot from dream also. like, um LATERAL MOVEMENT!!!!! Yao moves and runs like the players on nba live. Yao looks computerized when he runs up and down the floor, like a robot; all slow and ****. hakeem could be teaching yao the foot speed he had back in the day.
you can't teach footspeed! Dream can teach him proper footwork, but speed part is all up to the natural abilities. Yao doesnt need as many fakes as Dream.. Yao is taller than everyone else, so he needs some quick simple moves and he can score by shooting over them. Dream needed fakes cause he had centers the same size as him guarding him. Yao doesn't need the fadeaways, he needs more hook shots, and dunks.
