MacBeth, I don't know if I would rely too heavily on numbers like that...the exact numbers cannot really be known for certain (for various reasons) and I have seen slightly variant numbers as well. I actually thought the Allied tank numbers were about 1000 greater than Germany's alone. Hmm...not sure. In any event, it is all really beside the point as Germany was concentrated and the Allies were spread out over Europe and N. Africa. Germany benefitted from not having an empire.
The numbers I have are reliable, and are correlated by Wilmott's Struggle For Europe, and Churchill's memoires footnotes. The numbers did get a little confusing after Sea Lion up to when Speer took over on the German side, but except for during that period they were pretty defined. And about the concentration, I agree, as stated in the numbers post, but there is the additional factor which I didn't mention of quality over quantity, and there the Germans were almost universally better than the Allies, with the possible exception of the Hurricane ( Spitfires weren't mass produced yet) on land and in the air. Allied tank armament was a positive, but more than made up for by the panzer's speed and firepower, and their rate of replacable parts was the best until the Russians got going. All in all, I'm pretty confident about facing Nomar's quote...
