why is it that every thread which contains a quote from JVG turns into a JVG thread? can't people focus on one topic at a time? do some people really feel the need to bash the coach as they claim he bashes the players? that only puts you on his level.
oh and please stop defending the players who played in the second half and hating on JVG. freakin' 20 points in 24 minutes.... please man... they did suck.. that's just the truth.. what can he sugar coat about this?? maybe: "Oh, they tried really hard... you know.... at least they tried to get the pass to the open guy.... yeah that's good enough..."
I personally love Old Man Rok's passion for the team. He is entitled to his opinion. I agree AND disagree with what he says. Regardless, his opinions are educated, thought out, and honest. What else can you ask for???? On a side note, I'm trying to figure who the guy is. Newlin, maybe? That guy was ALWAYS artitculate about the game, and how the team operates.....
Man, I know I'm in the right profession! I am a certified pedorthist, business is booming (my specialty is diabetic shoes)
Should guys who are not fulfilling what they get paid millions of dollars fulfill have their egos stroked? Does every ones boss here sugarcoat your screw ups. Jeff Van Gundy doesn't coddle millionaires should he? These players have a JOB first and foremost. If VG covered for the problems on this team.....this site would be talking about those same problems. And everyone here would be asking "why doesn't VG admit this is wrong." It's frustrating controlling a team who is out of control and you feel you have no control on them, and you can't make them make the right decisions. ALL you can do is just watch it helplessly and then face the media for the guys who didn't do it right! How can people be so affected by JVG's negativity and be on this site?
Then there should be no qualms with what JVG says. I don't see what JVG has said that was so wrong. He hurt babeez wittle feewings? Give me a break. They have about 2-3 weeks to prove who they are and what they offer. Two-three weeks is not exactly a ton of games. This is a reality check for those guys. If anything they'll wake up. If they wilt, then they don't belong on the team to begin with. No, with Newlin, he'd try to use one big-ass word every 3 sentences... if it were live, he'd pause or slow down to let you soak the word in for effect before proceeding.
I remember several times last year (I think the Nets and one Dallas game) when Yao scored 30+ JVG would criticize a few poor defensive plays or a few turnovers, and not talk about the fact that Yao dominated the game. The comments about Yao's P&R defense are not isolated. Saying that T-Mac needs to "improve his 3 point percentage" is not really criticism, it's a tautology. T-Mac knows that his 3pt % was subpar last year. If JVG really wanted to criticize, JVG would have said "T-Mac needs to improve his shot selection" which is the real root of the problem. But I remember JVG saying that he NEVER discusses shot selection with T-Mac. If that's the way to deal with T-Mac to keep him happy, then fine. But then don't claim that he holds everyone accountable, because he doesn't. Every coach can yell at rookies, that doesn't make him "hold people accountable." Yao is willing to do pretty much whatever his coach tells him (sometimes to his detriment, in my opinion.) But what determines whether a coach hold everyone accountable is if he holds people like T-Mac accountable.
In my eyes. Van gundy has a lot of flaws in coaching. This is his last year if rockets do bad..First off, no motivation=no confidence..you won't make good plays from that. Intensity..defensive and offensive..i don't know but motivation and confidence by the coach is a huge factor in intensity. He is way too uptight in his interviews about things so his coaching is probably some complicated set of plays that is ineffective which translates to the court. why give him the benefit of the doubt the whole time. The lakers have scrubs and they operate better as a 'team'. I just hate the fact that van gundy doesn't say 15 strong..rather 2 stars surrounded by role players. If they suck, he blames the role players. This isn't the right WAY to WIN or coach. Our point guard rafer has no court vision like nash does. So he cant create and van gundy is making things worst. He is dissing the scrubs all the time and they just don't gel. (Based on last year). They should play more as a team..like suns and dallas do. I can guarantee this year if plays are surrounded by predictable yao and tmac..we won't go far. If we play as a team and win as a team like in sura days when he ran the show..we'd go farther.
It's expressing confidence that Yao is even better than he showed. As for "improve 3pt %" being a "tautology". Please look up the meaning of the word and explain how it fits your use of it. Also explain to me about how "improve shot selection" is a "criticism" but "improve 3pt %" is a "tautology." Following your argument, JVG telling Yao to "improve P'n'R defense" was giving him a "criticism", but he could have bee nicer to Yao and given him a "tautology instead" if he said "Yao! Decrease opposing FG% in P'n'R situations!"
One preseason game. One lousy game. And the Gundy haters jump right on the coach! Talk about old act? THIS is getting old. I wonder, OldManRock, can you find faults with God? Here's 100 bucks to the tipjar that says you actually CAN.
he'll just tell you that god has been the cause of all the wars faught in his name since the begining of time, and you'll be out 100 bucks. i agree that this JVG hating is getting old. i almost want him gone just to stop the madness here. remember when there were steve only fans vs yao only fans vs yao only haters vs steve only haters. i liked steve but i was happy to see him go for tmac because EVERYONE loves tmac. and his fans don't hate yao fans. we need a coach so popular that there won't be a posting war every single thread. i mean EVERY thread has to be turned into JVG lovers vs JVg haters.
Actually, smoothie, RELIGION is the cause of all the wars fought since the beginning of time. So, I keep my 100!
By the way, before I get accused once again for being on the Gundy tip, to me, this is his last chance. I believe he now has the talent to make it to the second round MINIMUM. I don't care how many wins he gets in the regular season. Injuries could happen and that number can be skewed. I judge in the playoffs. Second round. Hard fought if we lose. Or, I want a divorce. I will miss all the sex. But, I want to win first and foremost.
yeah ok i guess you can keep your 100. i agree that this is JVG's last chance to make the second round. i'll understand losing to SA, DAL, and PHO but he better have the team in possition NOT to play them in the first round. besides, next summer is the best time to make a coaching change. adelman and brown should still be available.
