The most telling thing in that article to me is not that Carr overthrew his receiver by 20 yards, but that he seemed to feel that him and his receiver weren't on the same page because they weren't in each others ear. This guy has been your teammate for months now, Carr. You should know your receivers and have a feel for where they will be and how they operate by now. And even if you couldn't get a good feel because you usually worked with 2nd stringers, you knew you would be starting for a WEEK before that Tampa game, so you should have been prepared. He wasn't. It is indicative of how we felt about him when he was here. There were a lot of things to blame his lack of success on, but you always sort of wondered how much of it could be traced back to Carr himself.

I wonder what Smith would have said had he bothered to comment to the reporter.

Check out the Carolina Panthers forum. They are having a long-ass thread arguing about whether Carr sucks or not.

Honestly, I really don't want to kick a man when he's down, but....

It would certainly give credence to the rumor that Carr was always the first guy to leave when practice was over while he was here.

Hell, Schaub already has better chemistry with AJ (and now Owen Daniels, since AJ is hurt) than Carr did the entire time he was here. Without checking the stats (because I know Ric will if he reads this ;) ), I can remember most of the time when AJ got a long gain, it was because Carr basically threw up a jump-ball and AJ went up and got it.

the sad thing is people across the country have been led to believe its all the line's fault. i remember when carr was traded, national writers wrote how the texans were never going to get good qb play.

edit: carr was let go, but you know what i mean

Carr is still Carr - a middle of the road QB. I don't expect much from him.

As far as Mario goes I'd put a for sale sign out and see what kind of draft pick I could get. Bet I could get at MOST a late second. First pick in the draft. What a joke.

I don't think its kicking him while he's down. He chose to be the backup qb at Carolina knowing the complete situation there.

I wonder what one of those looks like? Because we've never seen that around here!

If one read long enough, one could probably observe people whose arguments and posting styles are similar to the personalities here. We could even document the process of dealing with a Carr tenure at QB and publish it for them--kind of like the grieving process. Then we could tell them what they're going through is healthy.

    Kind of like this:

    The David-Carr-Is-Our-Starting-QB Process

Denial. In this stage your mind refuses to grasp all the tell-tale signs pointing to the sucktitude of your favorite team's starting QB. Other issues are always there, offering false hope that the problem is not with your QB.

Anger. The anger may directed at your pathetic quarterback, at those who drafted, traded for, or signed him, or misdirected (via lingering denial) at the others who don't appear to be performing well (like your team's offensive line or running game).

Bargaining. In this stage you're generating alternative scenarios in your mind. Perhaps if he only takes three sacks this week, completes 80% of his 4-yard dump-off passes, and only throws one pick, his stats will look good, and if we can get a special teams touchdown or three and the defense holds up maybe we can win, you think to yourself.

Depression. You want your team to be good so badly, but you despair of it happening any time this decade. At this stage, one might still be lighting up the Inernet bulletin boards with spirited defenses of Carr, or perhaps the decision to acquire, keep, or extend Carr, or perhaps you're posting pictures of every QB you'd rather have on your team other than Carr, or perhaps you're obsessing over one QB specifically. Whatever the symptoms look like, they all point to the same thing: Overexposureto-Carr-Disorder (OCD). Folks with OCD have been known to post in circles the same argument, with spirit, fire and vitriol, for two or three dozen pages. 800 posts and piles of expletives and insults to people they've never met later, they're left wondering what happened. Well, we know what happened. You got David Freaking Carr as your QB. That's what happened.

Acceptance. Acceptance only happens after David Carr is gone. Then, everyone who defended him feels like a big dope, everyone else good-naturedly rubs it in, and everyone becomes friends again.

We don't know how long this process can generally take, but the only other documented case (and BOY, is it documented!) took just over five years to run its course.

    not me; i feel better.

i never doubted carr physically. he could make every throw, he ran well and was a tough sunvabitch. my guess is kubiak watched the film and saw the physical gifts, too, and thought he might have a lump of clay he could mold.

but i think once he got up close and personal, he realized carr simply had other priorities; i, of course, have no idea if he's always been that way, or if thats how the abuse here manifested itself, but he just seems to lack the commitment. there was interview posted with him in which the writer asked if he'd cuss derrick brooks if he ever hit him late, etc., and carr went into some "nah; we're friends - we play golf!" response, and i thought... is this guy r****ded? he sounds 8. does anyone think brett favre would have answered that question that way?

that's the only way my head can figure out how you get from "yes" to a three year extension to an outright release in 12 months - kubiak watched him from afar, like what he saw, got up close and didn't like the view as much and was able to convince mcnair of it.

anyhoo....... so when i see interviews like this, it makes me feel like that is indeed the case.

I know Mario has been improving and giving solid play (not great play every week)...but let's be real fellas...the "bust" talk won't end until he ends a season with a solid sack total. He is anchoring the line and playing the run well...those things are nice...but one of the reasons given when drafting him was to get on Mannings butt, and you do that by getting sacks. At the end of the day that's how most will judge him...those that aren't Texans homers.

And yes, I know he get's doubled. GREAT DE's are still expected to get sacks when doubled. We still expect Yao and T-Mac to score when doubled, right? No excuses for "superstars", and the #1 pick is a superstar pick as far as expectation levels go...especially considering the dudes they passed on for him.
