The point being that maybe your expectations of him needing x-amount of sacks to be a great DE need to be tempered. A great DE can be measured by a variety of circumstances.

Hypothetically speaking, say over the course of the next 10 years, Mario Williams remains a Texan and only once has a double digit sack season, with the rest being in the 7-9 range. But in that time frame Williams is a well known anchor for a defense that is looked upon as one of the best of all time and the Texans as a team win two Superbowls. Does he go to the HOF?

But I've seen all of these things from him. Should we be seeing it more often? (This question is being asked sincerely, not argumentatively.)

Examples of when I've seen them: one of Okoye's sacks, a few times I've seen QBs flushed from the pocket. I've seen him around the edge several times and come in from behind a running play or chasing the QB towards the sideline. As far as opposing linemen, Orlando Pace (iirc) had his hands full last year; everyone was talking about it. If it wasn't him it was somebody that raised some serious eyebrows.

to really appreciate mario williams, you really, truly need to go to a game. those who say his motor doesn't run consistently will spend the afternoon prying their shoe from the back of their throat.

first of all, he's bigger than anyone on the field; it's nearly awe-inspiring. and he's fast. and he goes sideline-to-sideline. when the ball is run to his side, he's rarely out of the play.

and he pressures the QB well. it may not register as a sack, and therefore pgabriel won't notice it, but when you can force a QB to throw a ball a even a second sooner than he wants to, if you can disrupt his rythym and timing with his receivers... that's like a sack.

Thank you. I knew I was remembering it wrong. I guess since I needed someone to clarify that for me, that makes you my daddy, too?
pgabs, you've made your point. It's wrong, but you've made it. If all you have left is more insults, then just back away from the keyboard. Go back over the thread, and all I've said is that your take is stupid. And it is. But, keep calling everyone (the growing numbers, btw) who disagrees with you "homer" and "arrogant", telling people who's their daddy, and then come in and chide others about "class". Awesome.

I've defended mario plenty on this sight. in the st louis preseason game msn mentions I remember him making plenty of plays.

but he has to be more consistent. you're right, his size is awe inspiring, he was the number one draft pick, he's an end in the the 4-3 therefore he needs to be a better pass rusher.

does the second quote prove the first to be wrong, or have you just resorted to this usual childishness again?

yes, you did. see, i posted this little nugget: i would contend any "great" DE you name was above average or better at every other facet of the game beyond merely sacking the QB. that's why guys like mark gastineau aren't in the hall of fame. i added the bolded emphasis, because...

you then posted in response: and guys like bruce smith, reggie white, charles haley, richard dent, etc are.

so they are... what? if not "in the hall of fame"?

huh? so your point is that you don't have ot use HoFers to support your opinion of mario williams? but all you've done is drop one HoFer after another on us to show us how inept mario is.

okay, they're not in the hall of fame, you've proved your point, that mario williams will never be considered as three people not in the hall of fame. hell of a defense.

Awesome. I'm now a childish, classless, arrogant homer, who knows more than everyone else except when he needs his "daddy" to answer questions for him. Or, perhaps you're just attacking because you're grasping at straws watching your stupid take being dismantled on every side.

Oh, and I posted the quotes because the irony was delicious: "I defend Mario all the time!" about a half page after "I don't need to list Hall of Famers to prove Mario is inept!" AWESOME defense.

    Irony is so ironic.

"Criticize" and saying someone is "inept" are a little different, don't ya think?

Yeah, it had nothing whatsoever to do with the insults flying across your keyboard all afternoon.
