what makes rafer possibly more effective under adelman than jvg? his inability to finish near the rim or his complete lack of anything mid-range?

i'm having a hard time understanding what aspect of rafer's game that jvg shackled.

I think he'll be using more of he's passing ability. THE GUY HAS A FEW CONS, BUT HE'S PASSING ABILITY IS A MAJOR PRO IN HE'S GAME. i also dont think he'll be asked to take anything near amount of shots he was taking under gundy.
Rafer is a solid PG when he is'nt asked to carry alot of the load on offense.

Well, to be honest I hate that he has to be babied by the organization or he'll go out and do something stupid (see the "Alston arrested" thread)... I don't know whether we'll be able to get anything out of him this year.

Totally agree. There's no reason to trade away Rafer right now. If we move Rafer and JL3 like it's been rumored, then we'll have Steve, James, and Brooks at the PG. If Steve goes down, then suddenly our depth at the PG spot becomes a weakness with only James and a rookie at the point.

We've got 18 under contract right now, with Sura going to be bought out and JL3 probably traded for a 2nd rounder or something. Mike Harris will most likely be a training camp casualty, and Justin Reed can get dumped if we re-sign Deke. That puts us at 15 on the roster, with redundancies at the point (Steve, James, Alston, Brooks) and the 2 guard (T-mac, Bonzi, Snyder, and Head) so we can move pieces down the line, when we see how everything works out.

rafer is a solid pg and was one under van gundy. rafer will play a lesser role and take fewer shots because of a completely different roster with 3 new people at his postition. not because of the coaching change. adelman is obviously a better offensive coach than jvg but i don't expect to see any drastic improvement from rafer than what he's been the rest of his career.

Rafer was pretty much a 3 point shooter under Gundy. i'm not expecting bigger numbers, just more effeciancy. i just think he can be a compotent piece in the motion offense.

What bad timing on Rafer's part....now it'll be hard to get any value for him.

By the way, I was just wondering how Adelman was going to integrate all our post scorers. Yao, Bonzi, and Scola all enjoy playing in the low block.....how's Adelman going to get the best out of all 3 players? Can 2 guys operate on the low block? one on the right block, one on the left?

see but that's what he's good at. he can't drive and score, he can't hit mid-range jumpers. he can fairly consistently hit a 3-pointer, handle the ball with low turnovers and run an offense. van gundy used him to his strengths and i don't remember thinking, man he's holding back rafer from what he can really do.

he still made his occasional flashy move, made a couple slick passes but he's not going to consistently do that well for any coach. cause he's rafer alston not steve nash.

i agree that he can be a competent piece in a motion offense, but he's always been a competent piece. i'm saying jvg didn't hold him back, i just don't buy that.

The Rockets need to trade him before the season starts. He has talent, and would help the team but not with his current mindset. Unless he is willing to play a diminished role for Adelman I don't want him on the team. Clearly he is distraught about the situation, which is understandabole but IMO his actions shot any chance of him playing for the team.

    Real shame too.
