what i found pathetic was that it took him 5 pitches to hit the guy. that is what is pathetic. how can you not hit a guy who is 6'2 and nearly 240 pounds? that's just awful.

springer couldn't hit the side of barn if he was driving an 18-wheeler at it. the guy needs to be cut, waived, dropped off on the side of the road on the next road trip, whatever it takes to get this guy out of an astros uni. i hate having to change the channel everytime he steps into the game.

    13 IP
    1-0
    3.46 ERA
    12 K's
    5 BB's

He hasn't given up a run in his last 5 outings.

Performance-wise, he's been our best bullpen guy by far this year.

But just from an entertainment standpoint, I'd love to see him get traded to the NL West and have him plunk Bonds again. :)

I'd love to see him get traded to the Giants so Barry can kick his ass.

Bet the Giants would actually give Springer a trophy, I'm sure they're tired of dealing with Barry's crap. :D

Exactly... and that's likely the reason why none of his teammates stood up for him, and hit one of the Astros hitters in either one of those games (hell, they were both blowouts, so you can't say they didn't have an opportunity).

People who don't understand the history of the game are the only people that seem to have a problem with this. Hell... even Cardinals fans (the most kind-hearted, good-natured people on earth) understand why Bonds was probably a target... and why its ok because its part of the game.

Biggio or Berkman should have gotten hit in the subsequent game... and the situation would have been over/done with. None of this suspension crap, or extra policing... let the players take care of it.

What's hillarious is that a guy who sucker-punches another player for no reason, other than being a poor sport (Michael Barrett) will end up getting a similiar suspension to Russ Springer, who wouldn't have even gotten suspended had he just hit Barry with the first pitch (and it was stupid for that ump to issue warnings).

After missing on several attempts springer threw at the largest part of bonds’ body, his head.

no, I'm just making a joke. I don't care about bonds using and I think what springer did was a joke. he couldn't hit a guy inflated on roids.

don't let one nice start to a season fool you. this is the same guy who had a 4.76 ERA last year and has a career 5.05 ERA. just wait until he reverts to his old self and starts giving up hits and runs at crucial points in the game.

Yep, that 2.34 ERA last August & September was pretty terrible.

again, you are letting a very small sample from a 13 year career of mediocrity fool you. yes, he pitched well down the stretch of the regular season but if he was so great and reliable how come in the playoffs last year he pitched a whopping 5.1 innings out of the pen in 14 games?

and during his 12 previous seasons in the majors, he has finished the season with an ERA under 4.00 twice, including the 2004 season when he pitched just 14.2 innings the entire season.

the guy isn't that good and by season's end he'll probably end up with and ERA in the mid 4's and give up way too many fly ball outs that make your heart jump through your throat. russ is replaceable especially with two other righties who are much better in qualls and wheeler.

I agree. Our 4th string reliever should be an all-star pitcher or we're screwed. Much better to just have Gallo and Astacio pitch more often.

The Stros would have to find someone currently *not* on the team to "replace" Springer. Who?

where did i say we needed an all-star? that's not the arguemnt. i would like to have a more reliable pitcher and one who isn't going to embarass the entire organization by throwing at a guy 5 times trying to prove some idiotic point. so you hate bonds? who in the hell doesn't? that's no excuse for throwing at him like a like a coward.

there are plenty of arms down at round rock that could come in and do just as good of a job if not better. chris baker has been good out of the bullpen for the express with a 5-0 record, 1.27 ERA, 28.1 IP. chris sampson has been very good as a starter but could slide into the bullpen just fine. he's 6-1 on the year with a 2.45 ERA in 55 innings of work.

If your problem with him is simply that he was throwing at Bonds, why did your last 4 or 5 posts solely focus on his numbers?

Given that an ERA of about 4.5 is league average for ALL pitchers, and middle relievers are worse than your average pitcher, you're saying that you believe we have mulitple players in AAA that could be above average major league relievers? And you're saying you'd rather have them replace our better than league average reliever rather than our below-average Astacio, Gallo, and Trever Miller?
