LOL, Doc Rocket I doubt he's that homesick.

His agent is going all out to gain sympathy from the public and hoping to make the Rockets look like the heartless american NBA club. His agent is just pressuring the club to avoid any negative public relations.

As for missing family, didn't his mother head over to the US with him?

Anyway if he wants to go I say let him but ask for a 2 million dollar buyout.

Spanoulis' contract is a 3-year deal, with the third year being a team option. So yeah, that's right ... the deal could expire in a year. Can you suspend a player, not pay the salary and trade the deal? If so, why not use the contract in a trade as an expiring deal (trade asset)?

Personally I think V-Span "may" be sincere, but I feel all of this is stuff he gets over and adapts to if he didn't have such a miserable professional basketball experience. He came off the high of being the country's hero against the Americans to being scrubalicious and laughed at by the press for the "I was T-Mac in Greece" thing (as funny as that is, JVG was a jerk for twisting his words like that). Worst case -- he may think he's not good enough and will never cut it in the NBA.

I liked V-Span and had hopes for him, but got to do something now. They invested highly in him. I wouldn't do V-Span any favors, no matter how many Greek violin songs he and his agent can play. Use the contract.

I feel bad for the guy even though I would like to see him play for the Rockets again next season. But family comes first. I understand where he's coming from and I hope the Rockets just let him go. To make sure he's telling the truth stick some kind of clause in there that if he ever does play in the US again, he has to honor his contract with the Rockets before going to another team.

Good!!! Now I can stop convincing fools that he's not a cross between Jason Kidd, Tony Parker, and Ginobili.

Furthermore, is V-Span's contract even MORE of a trading asset given that the team that acquires him knows they are getting someone who is very willing to free himself of his contract? Meaning if what Blinebury posted in his blog is true, couldn't you trade the contract (worth a hair under $2 million for next season), then the team that gets Spanoulis work out this supposed cap-free mutual release?

    Just thinking in typed form.

So much emotion and extreme and drama in it, I hate that kinda crap
I know when you're in a bad spot far away from your own element it sucks...

But he can't freakin SURVIVE?! Not one second more? He cant be anything more than a product of Greece?! His mother crying out for help cuz her son''s in peril?? lol. What what exactly is so serious? He must been used and abused and gotten beaten up by people in the U.S. or something. I'm betting if he were a 15-20 minute per game player on the Spurs and getting adored for his style of play it wouldnt be so bad.

Things can and usually do change after years have passed. Spanoulis 31 years old might be singing a different tune, but its his business I guess...As long as it doesnt hurt our team he can do whatever he wants.

Didn't Boki have a screaming match face off with JVG over playing time that ended with him demanding a trade? Both did the same thing, ie wanted out of the Rockets.

It's like a TE that can be bundled. Sura+Spanoulis+Lucas = trade for a player worth around 8 million. LT tax paying team cuts 6.5M in that deal.

And if you can do that, you can combine it with Sura's expiring contract. If a team is looking for cap relief, that's a decent amount they could shed.

I've been thinking this too. If Spanoulis is sincere and we can assure teams that he'll take a buyout of practically nothing from whoever holds his rights, there are teams who would probably give up a draft pick for the ability to dump $2 million in salary this year, depending on the type of contract getting dumped.

Maybe this is why the Rockets haven't already cut him and Morey keeps feeding us the line about how the Rockets aren't letting him go.

Someone enlightens me please. If a player still has two year contract to go, how the hell he could dictate whether he wants to honor the remainder of the contract. If he doesnt come to play, can we force him to pay for his replacement out of his own pocket.

IMO, Morey is failing mightily as the GM.

Three words: What a p***y!!! He's blaming family problems on it so the Rockets will feel bad and release him from his contract. If we do, he'll turn right around and sign with a team over in Greece. Screw him, one less turnover prone guard on our team.

Yea, this isn't Morey's fault. This guy is a friggin tool. Who gets their mother to call (he's 31 years old) and cry to the agent to get him home. It must be soooo hard to get paid $1.8 million dollars in a foreign land....
