If he is released how much will he count towards the luxury tax? So, one less guard on the rotation, maybe SF3 maybe a Rocket since the Rockets will be trading guards in order to get a PF.

No no, he in breach of his contract. We do not have to pay him anymore so it will not count against the cap.

With or without V-Span's contract the Rox were over the cap anyways. After the Mike James fiasco and the wasted $ on VSpan and JL3 last year, it actually hasn't been so bad. Bonzi signed with us for way cheap, but let's say VSpan never signed last year at 1.8million, it is reasonable to think that all that extra $ would have gone to Bonzi and it still would have been cheap compared to market value for him at the time.

With Sura retiring, the Rox still have MLE space w/o going over the Lux Tax threshold imo. So all in all, it sux, but whatever, the Rox have Mike James, Rafer, Aaron Brooks, JL3...still a gluttony of PG's on the roster.

The agent needs to stop talking publicly, what an idiot. Yes, he must "warn" the other Europeans that if they don't like it here, tough, you are now slaves of the NBA.

Vspan is an LB. Don't want him on my team. get out whiner. Any talent this guy has will be negated by his lack of toughness and heart.

I have no problem with him wanting out. He needs to negotiate something for the Rockets to let him out of his contract though. You don't get anything for free. Paying back his buyout is not enough. We essentially lost a draft pick because of him and I know they can't repay that back, but he needs to give back a good portion of last years salary for the Rockets to release him.

They did not pay him 1.8 million to play last year. They invested that money in him to prepare him for future years when he could be a real contributor. Since he is not living up to his end of the committment he needs to give back more than the $350,000 buyout. Not that it helps the Rockets much.

Wait, Yao can adjust over here but V-span can't?

Does that mean Houston has more in common than Shanghai than it does with Athens?

I don't like his decision, because I think he would become a very good player if he stays, but on the other hand, I respect his choice... So let's move on..

I wonder if the management would wait a little longer or they would just try to take him off the book... (Is it possible to release him and not count his future salary against the cap?)

Well for me it's not very suprisin' but on the other hand it is. Why it isn't? Cause VSPan thaough last year that he would play but JVG didn't let him do it. But why it is suprisin'? Cause VSPan knows we have another coach, great guy, great coach who will probably have deeper rotation and he will probably let VSPan play

    Oh well.

If there is something going on with his family and/or he just could not get used to playing in the U.S., I can understand that. Some people just don't like leaving the place they grew up thier whole life. I'm the same way. I just COULD NOT imagine living elsewhere and be away from the area I've grown up around and move away from my family.

If he says it has nothing to do with basketball or the Rockets anymore, I'm inclined to believe him. But, those sentiments go right out the window if/when he decides to play for another NBA club in the future.

Childish of him? Did he leave room for something to be misunderstood here? He's not misspeaking or saying anything that is unclear. He simply says that he does NOT want to play in the USA thousands of miles from his family and home and he has made that known PERIOD to the Rockets OVER and OVER! So what? He's homesick - big deal. That makes him a pu$$y? Again, he's not being vague, he's making himself VERY clear. He wants to be with his family...so...let's call him a pu$$y? Why? Because if you were making more than your $27,750 a year, you'd do it?

Because he chose his family over the money and riches and the Steve Francis/ Cuttino Mobley mindset of the bling NBA?

Because he said, I'll give you your buyout money back but I want to be here in my home country?

Because he said I DO NOT WANT TO BE THERE?

Yeah, it's real easy to post on a BBS and call a guy a pu$$y because he won't live alone in another world for 9 months. Let's see - would you go to Europe for 9 months and leave the states? If you love basketball, why not just play there? Does he have to play in the NBA with Artest and Jackson? If he had a kid that was in school in Greece, would that be different? Would he then NOT be a pu$$y? I mean, that's what he is, right? A Pu$$y? Right????

    Hi - I'm a bbs poster - I'm 7.

..freaking break! I know - what if we trade him for Garnett or Kobe? Sweet!

I suspect as the he is in breach of contract, he will not get any pay this year. As far as recovering money from last year...forget it.

Together, you guys say it all. Hopefully they can negotiate something, like maybe he can pay back most of his salary, and V-Span can resume his career back in Greece where he belongs.

Some people will still try to blame it all on JVG.

Sue him for breach of contract. He should be playing for the next ten years for some Greek team and sending every dime he earns over subsistence level income to the Rockets.

I wonder what all the V-SPAN lovers have to say about this. Luffy? Amel? DaDa?

This is funny. He was so happy when he signed the contract even though he is sooooooo close to his family ("this is serious", after all) and expected it to be a lot different in the US? Now he will never leave Greece again?

I am pretty sure that if he was that attached to his family he would not have come to the US in the first place.

I also think it is funny that he has told the Rockets 10 times that he is not coming back and sold all his stuff and the Rockets have pretended like they never heard an answer from him.

As an aside, couldn't he "retire" from the NBA and wipe out his contract?

SLAVE???? What a rediculous statement. A millionare slave  . Good ridance you piece of crap. You dont have the talent or moxy to play in a real leauge. JVG new you werent good enough and now we all know you arent good enough. I laugh at your patheticness and hope this whole situation has destroyed so much of your confidence that you cant even make youre own countrys team as a backup. You have now been labled a hack by any real BB standards and will thusforth always be know as Hackanolis. I spit in face and give you the middle finger. Now go and hide and never even attempt to lace up youre BB shoes again. You are not worthy.

I've spent many months in Europe and away from my family, and somehow survived it. And I didn't have a contract that affects the Rockets. If his contract does not count against our cap this year, then fine. Greece has better salads than we do. If it impacts our cap, however, it is a very big deal. I also don't care for the BS coming out of his agent. If Billy had any class, he'd fly back here, have a press conference, and clear things up, not hide behind his agent, who's simply making things worse.

So does his contract impact our cap this year, or not?
