1, 2. Les needs to understand that we can't win a championship without going over LT.

    3. This was ALWAYS expected since 2008. The Rockets have screwed themselves for this off-season and there really isn't much we can do about it unless we drop key players. Either we do S&T after the off-season or sign back players we think might fit.

    4. It's more like 30 mil. Dalembert + Yao + Andersen = 18 + 11.5 + 2.3 = around 30. Also, people tend to underestimate the Center position. They do the dirtiest of jobs, which is grabbing boards, posting up, and contesting shots. With Yao + Dalembert, we can grab an average of 15 rebounds per game. That's pretty damn good, if you ask me.

    5. I'm not sure if this is a big problem. I don't think I've ever seen Brooks miss a game. If anything, we can always find a back-up, even if we don't have Lowry next season, in a Conroy or something.

    6. We should definitely leave Dalembert alone after his contract expires. Of course, we have Andersen off the bench, so we don't need Dalembert.

With 7, I see your point about the free agency that we should be targeting. But let's face it, we can't get Wade or Lebron in the off-season signing. We're going to keep Yao no matter what. We don't have that cap space to pick up a superstar SG. That's all there is to it. If you look at the other teams, practically half their team is going on the free agency list. Have you seen the Miami Heat's free agency list!?!

    Miami
    RESTRICTED
    Joel Anthony (P)
    Mario Chalmers (T)

    UNRESTRICTED
    Carlos Arroyo
    Yakhouba Diawara
    Udonis Haslem
    Jamaal Magloire
    Jermaine O'Neal
    Quentin Richardson
    Dwyane Wade (P)
    Dorell Wright

It's teams like THESE that are on the prowl for huge superstars.

Being realistic, TMac and Cook are the only ones we expect to be saying Good-Bye to. Landry, Lowry, Scola, and Yao are the players we sign back, then we already have what looks like a full-house. To me, that's a contender, as long as Yao stays healthy and productive.

If you're so desperate for Lebron or Wade, we can try to lose contracts like crazy, and try to get a superstar. In my opinion, this will NOT happen unless we decide to do it with a S&T.

    This.

Why are people on this BBS so enamored with EXPIRING CONTRACTS as trade assets, especially AFTER this summer???

First of all, an expiring contract is not that great an asset unless the other team is desperate to clear salary and is not interested in obtaining talent in exchange. Also, the salary being cleared is more often than not crap. Hell, do you think that teams have been calling Morey begging for Brian Cook's expiring contract? I didn't think so.

Second, to reiterate choujie's point above, there are a ton of teams who will greatly alleviate their swollen payrolls either this summer or next. Honestly, can anyone name that many teams who are fully expected to be in luxury tax hell beyond 2011 (besides teams like Dallas or Portland, with owners more than happy to pay the tax and not looking to dump talent for expiring contracts)? Please tell me. I'd love to know.

No one is going to give the Rockets anything of value for Dalembert's $14.2M expiring contract (yes, that'll be his cap figure next year after taking into account his trade kicker). The only thing the Rockets could get for him would be crap worth maybe $11-12M and extending beyond 2011. Why would the Rockets do any trade like that?

Please, I'm begging you all, stop it with the whole "expiring contracts are valuable" crap. The economic landscape in the league is changing, and those contracts won't carry the same weight anymore after teams clear up their salary situations, which should happen almost league-wide by 2011.

I posted my hopes for Solo man to join a particular kind of organization... For some reason it wasn't received as well as I had anticipated.

    You don't think

    Yao/Dalembert
    Scola/Landry/Hayes
    Battier/Ariza
    Iguodala/Buddinger
    Brooks/Lowry

is a team that can win a Championship? What more do you want? That is a loaded team with no weaknesses and probably the best defensive team in the entire league.

I agree, the smartest thing to do is let McGrady's contract expire. While looking over deals that come your way, but not really trying to acquire talent via trading McGrady that will taint our position in future deals (of which we have a lot).

The way things are, nearly no team with an all star, isn't still in playoff hunt mode, meaning the deals we are getting are for crap and only desperation at the dead line might net us something, although even if it doesn't we are still in a good position.

Really, the only person that might get hurt with us holding on to McGrady's contract is Tracy if he refuses to play according to the team's time table, so I am still confused as to why all the McGrady haters are blind to that fact.

Now might be a good time to re-post the economic effects of Dalembert's trade kicker, how much it escalates the costs of the luxury tax. To me that is the main reason to avoid that deal. ( I can't remember exactly where that post was)

Also I sent pages 32-35 of the that long 5 star thread to Sean and Jon. They were saying the same thing as Solomon on the radio a week or so ago.

No I don't think this team can win a championship. Like I said, I doubt Phili will do this trade straight up first of all. We may have to throw in Landry or Lowry. Second of all, Iguodala's ability to create for himself limited. He's a great player, but I doubt he has the ability to carry a team on his back in playoff crunch time. He's had three playoff berths and never once made it out of the first round. Battier is also not getting any younger.

Can someone please inform this writer that we do not get all of McGrady's contract money this off-season...
