I just came up with a theory about all this money and luxury tax crap.

If the owner is willing to spend money to put a winning basketball product on the floor then raise ticket prices. People will pay the prices to go we a winning team on the floor than a mediocre or poor team.

If the owner is not willing to spend money then lower ticket prices because he/she are being cheap to the fans so why should i have to pay 60-80 dollars for two tickets to watch a ****ty basketball team play and $7.50 for a beer on top of that.

That's not what he's saying. His primary argument is saying to not do a trade and acquire "one or two major pieces" over the summer. Short of dealing Battier or Ariza, the Rockets simply cannot get to an amount substantial enough to sign even one major free agent without renouncing Scola/Lowry. Thus, it's silly to use "can we keep Scola/Lowry" as rationale for not making a trade when the same exact problem results from what he's proposing (making a FA splash).

I'm coming around to his way of thinking, whether or not he's got the cap situation right in his head. There might be some magical trade available I don't know about, but something like McGrady for Iggy/Delambert puts us in luxury tax area for another year and crimps our freedom to do other moves. If Iggy is the missing piece that will put us back in championship contention, then go for it. But, I don't think he is. I think he'll leave us stuck in mediocrity because of the players we will have to forego because of him. If we're not swinging for the fences with McGrady's contract, there's no point.

For once Solomon makes some valid points. I don't fully agree with everything he is saying in this article but his premise is correct. Don't do bad deals out of desperation to do a deal. One will come along eventually.

So we just let 23 million rot on the bench get a 12-15 first round draft pick and miss the playoffs by two games? Thats what you call a waste of a season.

This logic is nothing new. Feigen's been saying it all along, as has Daryl Morey.

What Soloman can't seem to grasp is that even if McGrady expires, we still won't have enough cap space to sign a superstar if we re-sign out free agents, too.

And if we sneak into the playoffs with an 8 seed, what?

You honestly believe we wouldn't get blown out and have a shot at beating the Lakers and going to the finals??

    LOL

Being the 8th seed is much better than being the 9th or 10th seed right? Wouldnt you rather want to watch the Rockets for and extra week than watch OK city or NO get blown out by the Lakers.

You can laugh all you want but I'd rather watch my boys rumble with the Lakers, because you know we dont back down from nobody. And so what bring on the Lakers, Denver and Mavs.

I love being an underdog. You gotta have faith if we do reach the playoffs cause anything can happen.

I would tend to agree with a lot of what he is saying except that people still seem to think we will be able to pick up a Max level player with McGrady's contract and as we know his contract alone can't do it. Only Les and Morey know what the Tax situation truly is beyond this year but nothing on the market for what we would have to spend is equilivant to Iggy or even Butler so by doing nothing it leaves you with another role player and the mystery that is Yao as the newest additions next season to a team of role players already.

Actually mate, that's how we write it in the states. Just like we write "colour" color, etc.

Dont agree that, any team will try his best to go into playoff if they have chance.
In playoff, this is another story and start from zero.
We can win Lakers at least 2 match if we see Lakers in playoff. XD

If we let McGrady expire and have a chance at an all star player (bosh, joe johnson, etc), then we may not need to resign some of our free agents. For example, Bosh can take all of Scola's playing time.

Not quite, maybe if you trade both, unless you're down for letting Scola and Lowry walk.

I can say, without a doubt, that Google translations of chinese articles about the Rockets are more insightful than anything written by Jerome Solomon.

It's like he doesnt even watch the games.
