Been to a couple of conference finals, a bunch of second rounds, etc. If this team can't get something for him; this team will be stuck in mediocrity land for a while.

I will wait to see what happens, but if Morey does not get something done, then IMO, it will signal an inability to make the big deals ala CD.

Morey is miles better, but sometimes a situation requires a horse trader....

    Ala, Drexler..etc....

the big deals seem to go against the principles of moneyball.

why trade for amare at @$16M when you have scola and landry @$6M? why trade for iguodala @$12M when you can have ariza and lowry with that money?

morey's system is skewed towards the bargain. it's not that he can't make the big deals, it's that he doesn't value them as much as a lowry type trade.

I can see that, but that is a lot easier than making the large deals, and honestly that is not the type of trade that brings in championships etc.

I think sometimes you got to dig your heels into the dirt and swing away.

After watching Dawson swing again.... and again..... and again..... I think I'm less than enthusiastic about watching a GM going for the fences in that fashion.

Morey does not have the horse trader mentality like you state and his banking on the Summer FA's will end with the same result. I hope something gets done by next Thursday that involves TMac and not Lowry or Scola.

    Swing for who though?

Caron Butler and Brenden Haywood? Do these two guys make us contenders?

Iggy + Dalembert? Nope, still not contenders.

Morey would swing for the fences if there was someone to swing for.

If you step back and look at tmac it is hard to get something for him. Although Knicks want him badly with his 22mill, he is near useless to teams. If they give up significant pieces they would have to have youngs they could trust to fill the spots they will have to give up because a crappy team and record will not buy you a wade or lebron?

Yeah that is true.....I don't mind us not making a deal, and McGrady's deal is so HUGE that it is tough to trade.

Either way, I am ok, but I would have hoped he would be willing to take on some long term baggage to make us better........

Wouldn't the Rockets be able to take on a big name free agent if the Rockets gave up a player who's 2010-2011 salary plus available cap space was equal to the contract of the player coming in, in a sign and trade scenario?

For example (the players are hypothetical, just trying to make the numbers work):

If the Rockets have 8 million in cap room, they can't sign Bosh to a contract starting at 14 million a year.

    But

If the Rockets could convince Toronto to sign and trade Bosh to a contract starting at 14 million for someone like say Battier, then I think this still works. If the Rockets free cap space plus an outgoing contract equal 14 million then this still works right?

8 million in cap room + 6 million outgoing contract = 14 million incoming contract.

Toronto probably isn't excited about the idea of swapping Bosh for Battier, but if Bosh makes it clear that he really wants to go play in his home state and isn't interested in playing for them anymore this could work. They would be in a situation where getting something back (an expiring deal and a 1st rounder) is better than nothing at all.

I think he would for the right player(s). Not just for the sake of moving T-Mac though. I'm sure he is working that meeting room trying to talk to every possible trading partner that is willing to listen. He would prefer to just move T-Mac and his 23 mil, and not have to include the young talent. That is just difficult to do when T-Mac makes 23 mil. Man I wish he only made around 16 mil, that would make it so much easier.

It sucks that we won't get Butler, but making this trade it still won't put the Mavs over the top. Butler is the kind of player that needs the ball to be effective. I think Haywood would make a bigger impact then Butler.

I agree. It really doesnt bother me either, but it kind of go back to my analogy about people in the workforce. Some people like making 50k, work for 30 years, and get their gold watch. Some people take a chance, start their own business and sink or swim on their own success or failures. The risk is greater, but the reward is far greater. To me, the rockets are more examples of the 50k woker. They will be just good enough to win 50 games, but not great enough to win it.

Houston has a fanbase comprised of people telling management to show us! If you dont show people you're serious about winning a title, they will find something else to do. They don't care how many chinese advertisements or banner you have in toyota center. Look at how emptiness in the lower bowl of the toyota center. The actual attendance vs the announced attendance is a mismatch. That means less hotdogs,beer,parking,t-shirts,and sodas being sold.

I know this season is for development and this squad has exceeded my expectations. I thought they would win between 37-42 games, but i dont think this team is any closer to a title with yao back and that 7m player added in free agency than they were last yr . The windows open and close so quickly that if you dont add the talent needed to slip a wedge in there, it will close on your neck. If you don't think it closes quickly, ask adelman from his kings days, the mavs, and the nash led suns.
