Taking pieces from this I am left wondering how the Rox' depth 'matters' if not for emergency or trade purposes.

Adelman keeps a tight rotation of players. There is the starting 5 + Landry and Lowry, with little more than cameos for Andersen and Bud. Dorsey is the great (or not so great) unknown re: playing time after the ASG.

Therefore, to get what 'you want' to move into the major minutes of the Top 7 why should their be reluctance to include anyone else, unless their future 'upside' is deemed to be significantly huge?

What I don't get is why the Mavericks would get Brendan Haywood when they already have Erick Dampier? If Im not mistaken, they are pretty much identical in the way they play and what they bring to a team...?!

Is there a report someplace I am missing other than Stein's report saying they are in negotiations? Other than Feigan saying the first domino has fallen, I don't see anyone reporting this as a done deal. They also say the Cavs are negotiating for Amare but I don't see anyone talking about that as a done deal

A little disappointed but I'm fine with this. Although I would have liked Butler (and Haywood), they're not worth losing a young rotation player over.

But I'm not looking forward to the media drama if McGrady doesn't get traded by the deadline and the team decides not to waive him.

We aren't tanking,a small trade without giving up our assets to get under the LT is the most reasonable thing to do.

So far DM has not let us down. But I think he will this time, in a sense. Everybody wants a trade to go down, but at this point it does seem like we do not have any edge over anyone. Most teams are probably laughing at us because we think we can get 'high level talent' for mac. Since we really won't be able to do that, I don't think DM will make a move. While that may be the best thing in the overall interest of the team, it's going to let all of us fans down because we want to see something happen.

DM made a big mistake by going after Kevin Martin, glad we didn't get him. That would have required giving up assets too. Iggy is better than Butler but he isn't a elite talent,Philly can keep him.

I see 1 of 3 things happening at this point in the order I see it happening.

    1) Trade Tracy to the Knicks for Harrington and expirings.

    or

    2) Trade Cook to the Grizzlies or Clippers for Tax relief

    or

    3) Let Tracy expire and see if we can't grab someone who fell out of the max contract range. We can outbid those that only have MLE but we can't outbid their current team or others that are in our situation. We most likely will end up getting the "best" MLE player available while slightly overpaying.

Still 5 days left, but wouldn't be surprised at all if they made no move and not surprised by this report. Read all the other reports, put them even halfway together, you get clue.

Caron Butler trade - even though I wasn't that excited about it - was the only one I could see happening and actually have legs.

Now, I doubt a trade will happen IMO.

I still think a three way deal with the Wizards and Knicks is possible.

    Scenario A:
It would not be with Butler and Haywood (if the Mavs agree with the Wizards), but if we could trade for Miller, Young and perhaps McGee ... I would pull the trigger also.

    http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yhcd95w

    Rockets line-up:

    C: Hayes/McGee/Anderson
    PF: Scola/Landry/Dorsey
    SF: Ariza/Budinger
    SG: Miller/Young/Taylor
    PG: Brooks/Lowry

With trading Battier away and trading for Mobley's contract we would have more space to resign Scola and/or Lowry (and/or Miller).

    Scenario B:
When the Wizards aren't willing to trade McGee away (and I would be a little shocked if they do trade him away) we can still get a needed big guy.

    http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yfnz3xt

    Rockets line-up:

    C: Hayes/Milicic/Anderson
    PF: Scola/Landry/Dorsey
    SF: Ariza/Budinger
    SG: Miller/Young/Taylor
    PG: Brooks/Lowry

With Milicic the Rockets could have an extra expiring contract (next to Mobley's contract) that could help them to resign Scola and Lowry, or to sign a big FA (Bosh or Joe Johnson) this summer.

So the only trade that's left is the New York one right?

Appears to be but you aren't going to get anything significant, besides getting under the LT, but you could do that with the much smaller contract of Brian Cook.

I'm just disappointed at this point.

I really thought Morey was going to steal Caron and Brendan away.

I'm not sure if there is anything else up his sleeve. Time is counting down now.

I'd even prefer a small trade to get a shooter in here.

He's not having the best year, but I'm a big Jarvis Hayes fan. New Jersey would bite on anything.

Mavs get better and our division is by far the most competitive in the league. Not a single sub .500 team. We need Yao so bad.. or another Morey miracle.

Not necessarily, NY is still probably looking for a third trade partner to trade with us, Chicago and Golden State come to mind..... ;)
