I'm surprised Fran didn't say we should give Tmac's salary to Landry.

Why haven't they signed Dorsey to a contract yet?

If Mutombo doesn't sign up for another year, the Rockets will be needing both Landry and Dorsey in the frontcourt rotation.

At this point, I don't see one being the solution for the other at all.

Waiting for Landry to sign first, I think. Once they are sure they got Landry, they'll use part of the MLE for Dorsey so they can lock him up for 2 years + 3rd year team option (what they did with Novak).

I thought the Rockets don't have to to use any of the MLE to sign their own draft picks.

While Dorsey will be a better defender (because Landry is mediocre in that regard), he won't provide the scoring punch Landry gave us last season.

I'm not so sure about Dorsey not filling in for Landry's scoring. While Landry has a much more varied offensive skillset and a higher potential (assuming he stays healthy), I believe Dorsey will be able to finish Landry's open shots inside. Landry took 66% of his attempts from inside and made 70% of them. 72% of those shots were assisted. Dorsey is longer than Landry, and when you factor in his strength, just as athletic.

The one problem I see with the switch is Landry can shoot the midrange and free throws.....while Dorsey is probably a better defender....

They don't. But dipping into the MLE allows them to add a third year team option to Dorsey's contract. Otherwise, the longest contract they could give Dorsey would be two years.

Would the Rockets have his early Bird rights if they signed him to a 2 year guaranteed contract? If yes, then it might become easier to re-sign Deke with part of the MLE.

I'm not sure that Dorsey is nearly as good an offensive player as Landry is.

But if the Rockets can't sign Landry to a long term contract, they might as well just move on.

I wouldn't put too much input on this, I looked at the site and there was no link that said there have been any offers on the table for Landry. I believe hoopschina was the same forum that mistranslated and spread the rumor that Scola was going back to Europe.

I seriously doubt that they would offer Landry 7 million per, especially coming off major knee injury.

You know i hate to break it to everybody but Landry...he ain't that good. I mean, seriously. Because of his age, i don't really get the "potential" argument either (Isn't he like 25?). Of course he'll get better with time and he's already pretty decent but i feel Scola is much better than him and deserves to start and play big minutes. I don't feel like its an intelligent move to drop anything close to the full MLE on a short, backup PF with an injury history.

Hayes and Dorsey would do fine in his place. Not that i want it to happen, i just feel he's not worth nearly as much money as he seems to think he is.

Thank you. I just think that if we feel we are not going to get value we should do a sign and trade. Cleveland is having trouble resigning delonte west, we could do a swap they could use Landry.

i just think its bad to lose him for nothing.

Yes, they would; but the Rockets would much rather have a team option on Year 3 for the league minimum than have to deal with (almost) the same mess that they're dealing with now with Landry. Why fight off potential suitors of your restricted free agent when you can keep the guy for the league minimum?

Also, re-signing Deke does not require the MLE. The Rockets have full Bird rights on Mutombo.

Seriously??? Did you just suggest that the Rockets sign and trade Carl Landry???

Jacquescas, I'd expect that sort of statement from a Rookie. But you??? Come on, now. You're better than that.

CARL LANDRY CANNOT BE SIGNED AND TRADED BY THE ROCKETS UNLESS IT'S FOR THE LEAGUE MINIMUM. In other words, it CANNOT happen.

Imagine Landry and Dorsey both coming out swating and dunking on every one.

Dorsey gets a block then gets it to Landry for a beast dunk.

Then luis comes in and puts Boozer head in his place.
