I am not disagreeing with you, but IMO Hakeem's biggest advantage over the other PF/C's was his ability to jump quickly and high and also his second jump was just as quick and just as high as his first. That got him a lot of blocks, rebounds and put backs. IMO, JHill has that same unique characteristic and that is why I hope we don't trade him yet.

I was a little surprised that we got Patterson since we're pretty stacked at the 4, but it's certainly not a bad pick.

Personally, I think trading Hill (who IMO is much more of a Bosh lite than PP) is a bad idea, and I'm surprised at all the talk about it. Maybe it's just because everyone's been watching Patterson highlights recently and have forgotten the huge strides Hill made in his first season here.

I think Morey should and will keep Hill and Patterson as backup PF/C unless he can land a superstar like Bosh or CP3. Jeffries (and his ugly contract) should be the first to go. I'm not too thrilled about Anderson/Armstrong either and think one or both of them may be cut/traded/sent to the d-league.

Barring any blockbuster trades, I'm fairly satisfied with a 2010 lineup of:
    Brooks/Lowry
    Martin/Budinger/Taylor
    Ariza/Battier
    Scola/Hill/Patterson
    Yao/Hayes

As long as that lineup stays fairly healthy, I think we've got a good chance at surprising some people and get past 1-2 rounds in the playoffs.

So that means the Rockets ranked Patterson higher than Monroe, Aminu, Aldrich, and Paul George? And they would've picked Patterson with, say, the No. 7 pick? Hmmm. Don't know about that.

I do like Patterson fine as a 14th pick, though. Nothing flashy, but a potentially solid rotation player.

Call me crazy but I think that's good enough to be a contender, esp. if Bryant's body starts breaking down and Scola becomes 2nd option on the post again.

But I don't want to get past 1-2 rounds in the playoffs, I want to win the championship. We just don't have enough defense in the starting backcourt or power forward positions to be championship contenders.

I'm all for our draft pick. I think there's a good chance he'll get serious minutes for us. His numbers last year took a step back, but that was when DeMarcus Cousins came in to vacuum up all the rebounds.

I'm surprised more people here aren't talking up Amare Stoudemire as our free agent target. And surprised Morey is so let's-get-Bosh. Stoudemire is a 4/5, whereas Bosh is most definitely a 4 and nothing but a 4. STAT is there for the taking. We have draft picks, we even have ex-University of Arizona dudes (Hill, CBud) to offer to Phoenix.

EDIT: And for all the people who say STAT is a ^%##% and a #&$^$, well, we tried to trade for that ^%#%$# two years in a row.

I Googled Morey and Bosh together and could find no real suggestion that Morey was ever after Bosh except on this board. I did find bloggers and newspaper reporters suggesting (nothing official just conjecture) it but nothing I could consider official. I even emailed Clutch and another MOD asking if there was a source for this rumor and neither answered me. If there is a source someone knows about where Morey or another reliable source states absolutely that we are pursuing Bosh I would appreciate you posting it here.

Like I said, it's a good pick...and I am not saying he's not NBA ready and can't put up decent numbers, but to think he can do better than what Scola is doing out there is a long stretch in my opinion.

We are ok in the front court and I am sure PP can help make us better - over time.

But this is a guard league. And our greatest weaknesses are on the perimeter, not down low. With Yao, Scola, and Hill we have enough in the middle to win games.

The problem is that Ariza and Battier don't give us enough from the perimeter - from shooting or being able to penetrate and dish. And Kevin Martin has yet to prove to be a late game player. That's where I see us needing the most improvement.

PP may be a good player, but how much of an improvement will he be over what he currently have? I'm not sure it's a whole lot. Even if he becomes a Carl Landry - I think that's going to only marginally improve us. Maybe that's still good if we can get the kind of player we need in a trade - thus his payoff may be long term, not short term.

The Rockets' philosophy under Morey is clearly that we draft for the best available talent, and balance the roster by trades. I wholeheartedly support this philosophy.

If you have good players, you can always swap them for other good players that you really need. Most recent example: Landry for Martin.
