Folks can't really just consider height. It has to be height + wingspan/reach.

I think Kevin "T-Rex" Willis would agree!

The way I look at it, this is insurance, we now have three viable Big men to come in and eat minutes for Yao if necessary along with Andersen and Jefferies.

While I am firmly against trading assets to land Bosh, right now we do have enough guys to actually be able to make a trade and survive, if Patterson is as ready as many are saying he is.

Jeffries is more of a center than a 4?

Jeffries is a strange player. He's tall, but he is so quick and thin. He's too weak to guard most centers. If I remember correctly, he usually subbed Battier or Ariza.

A lot of Hill boy fans would disagree about him not being a hot commodity.

Hill and Patterson would be huge commodities. If you packaged one of them with a pick? Thats alot of value. Some of these teams are maybe looking at losing their guys for nothing. So what the Rockets have is significantly more to the point it would be stupid not to consider us as a partner for any team looking to replace their stars.

Hill has the higher trade value: bigger, #8 instead of #14 pick, more NBA experience

Or we could also keep both of them and benefit from having two guys who could fill in later for both Yao and Scola.

This under size stuff people keep talking about is bs. 6-9 3/4ths for a Power forward is a true power forward size. Not everyone in the league can be a 7 ft power forward like the lakers have.

no he wasn't. both he and Ewing were the better side of 6'9"

    Patterson has a 7'1" wingspan.

the bit about his 3 point shooting is true I've watched him at UK and he's really added that dimension to his game.

great pick... not sure about his utility to the team but Patterson will definitely be productive this year and will be great as trade material if nothing else in a year or two

Those talking about height.... please just do some thinking first.

-His wingspan is good apparently which is more important than height in my opinion. Why? because the smaller they are in height the more agile/quicker they tend to be, the wingspan allows more athletic guys to still be able to defend the bigger dudes and then beat them the other way.

-Worried about a back to the basket player with height backing him down? Now think about this, the guy often out there with him will be the tallest player in the NBA, you don't think he will be likely to be on the back to the basket player? How many teams start two players who mainly only score with their back to the basket? Sure teams like the Lakers have two big guys who can score that way but you never face a time when they both clog up the lane doing it, you always have one who tends to look for the mid ranger too(Gasol for example) and these guys always tend to have less weight to actually back someone with any size down, once again wingspan helps to guard these guys.

    - Your point guard is arguably the quickest player in the league, his backup isn't far off either, he can blow right by most of his opponents into the lane for layups or to collapse the defense. Now why would you want another huge guy blocking that space with Yao and therefore denying him that space?

    - While having the tallest guy in the league, he also happens to be near the slowest. We cannot afford to have another slow big on the floor... we already see times when Chuck and Scola together even though they work their buts off to get back find their team mates facing a 4 on 3 or 5 on 3 down the other end.

Just some thoughts on why size shouldn't be the key. It's not like hes a 6'6 PF! Now while perhaps Center was a more important position I have no problem with this pick. Despite what some of you may think its our 2nd weakest position. There are little to no minutes at PG when Lowry and Brooks are fit, the wings are stacked deep with Martin/Ariza/Budinger/Battier/Taylor.

I think he could be great addition to our team, defensive mindset that could really help us on the defensive end.

Thats so true. i am actially starting to look more that way because we might have something here with those two more than just Bosh alone would bring. I am down with alot of depth and potential.
