conroy isn't worth cook's 3.5 million expiring contract for the biggest FA market ever...seriously, is conroy THAT good?? I'm pretty sure I can just go find someone in the second round of the 2010 draft whos better than him

If you've seen Cook play at all during preseason, you would agree that he looks decent... At least way more active than last year. Dorsey, while effective in limited spurts, just doesn't seem to have it in him to work hard. Plus the ever present planar fasiliwhatever thingie...

Beck and Temple have zero chance of making this team. Conroy has an extremely outside shot, and Pops is making this team. Conroy would need Dorsey to be cut.

Would cutting Dorsey limit any financial options? I can't imagine any scenario where he is ever going to get minutes this season anyway with five players in front of him. The team definitely needs more depth in the perimeter. If we don't add another guard/SF we're basically banking on no one getting injured the entire season, which is unreasonable considering Battier's age and Lowry and Brooks sacrificial tendencies.

Agreed 100%. I guess Beck & Temple will be the first two to go. Pop will make this team for sure as he was playing with the rotation players last night to get chemistry. Conroy will make this team if Morey can trade either cook or dorsey by the end of this week.

I have seen Barry as a commentator for NBATV so I think that does it for him, but I'm not sure how these things work.

If the Rockets send him to the D-League, he still counts towards the 15-man roster.

Keep in mind, if they cut Dorsey or Cook they are over the luxury tax threshold and are not only on the hook for the cut player's salary, but also 1.5 times the minimum for Conroy. Management has to look at it like this. Would you rather have Dorsey at $1,321,500(Includes Luxury Tax) or Conroy at $2,426,130(Includes luxury tax + Dorsey's contract cost).

Conroy's best chance at the team is probably if someone gets hurt during the season, and he gets signed to a 10-day. I think the financial cost of waiving Dorsey and signing Conroy will be too much.

I hope Morey can work his magic and trade Cook, Dorsey and Barrys contract for 2nd round pick and money.

But thats building something out of nothing.. But if anyone can do it, it would be Morey. Thats my best case scenario for those 3 players.

Brian Cook and Mr. Foul Trouble (Dorsey) needs to be traded/cut for anything we can get that isn't an actual player.
Then we have room. Y :p

I don't really see how Pops doesn't make this team. I hope Conroy can catch on with another team though. Even though he hasn't been Wafer-esque from last year, he's still shown me enough to suggest that he belongs at the end of an NBA roster.

I think you're probably right, but for the sake of this season I hope Battier, Buddinger, Ariza, Lowry, and Brooks remain injury free...especially the last two. Point guard is the last position I would want to fill with 10-day contracts.

I suppose we can bring Taylor in if we need him, but I think it would be more beneficial if he got some work in the D-League rather than sitting the bench all year.

POPS will make it easy. We'll need him with our size deficiency at center and Scola dinged up a little bit. He can play C and PF.

    LOCKS:

    Hayes/Andersen/Pops
    Scola/Landry
    Battier/Cook
    Ariza/CBud
    Brooks/Lowry

    INJ: Tmac/Yao

After that it gets interesting between the other guys.

They need to do a 3 for 1 deal. Cook, Dorsey and Barry's contract for one guy. I mentioned Stephen Jackson in another thread because he wants out of GSW, and said he would welcome a trade to any of the 3 Texas teams. GSW would do it because they get rid of Jackson for expiring contracts.

Thats really where Conroy's advantage is. Lowry and Brooks are the only two PGs on this team, until TMac comes back(Obviously not a PG, but for emergency use he can do the job). I don't think Taylor can be a PG. The team can not afford for Lowry/Brooks to go down if they don't keep Conroy, especially if someone else signs him. If either is out for an extended period, we might be seeing this again:

But even if the offers for Steven Jackson haven't been great yet, the GSW ought to get something of value in return for him. Dorsey MIGHT pan out into a Player Who Doesn't Suck, but I would think Nellie would at least want a Jermaine Taylor from us.

And I'm not sure SJax is in the cards for us, unless it's to use as an Ilgauskas-expiring rental for the year.

IMHO, I think McGrady's contract is the ace in the hole to get us a caliber shooting guard that we'd keep around awhile. I won't hold my breath for Joe Johnson, unless we're willing to pay him more than Atlanta offered in extension.

The Rox DO need to dump our worthless players, though, and I can't help but wonder if Morey has had something lined up to do so, something that does flush Barry (retiring anyway) and Dorsey (hey, DarylM, they can't all be gems).

i'm not sure why being 6'9 would be such a great thing, unless you thought he was 6'6 or something...6'9 is still very much undersized to be a defensive stopper at the post. He'll help a lot with our interior D, but you need center like size in some way to be a "stopper"

Pay another team to take Dorsey, Money or draft pick or both.
    Cut Temple and Beck.
Trade Cook at or before trade-deadline. Before season start would be optimal!

It's not the size, necessarily, it's what you do with it (she said), but seriously, Pops plays like he's much taller. He simply blows Dorsey out of the water in terms of energy and determination, and let's face it, skill.

But I think we're stressing over one player (Conroy) too much, when this season is really a placeholder for next season. We just need to develop the talent we got and hope for good times in 2010-2011.
